I took apart my engine today and it looks good, the piston and sleeve is so tight that the piston pushes the sleeve out of the crank case when it reaches TDC.
Make sure you wash out your pipe, you wont want any dirt that may be in there to get into your new engine.
I bought the Starter box, is there a backplate that replaces the pull start assembly?

What's up DahlELama, haven't heard from you in a while. What new tricks have you been up to?

Look what arrived in the mail today, a brand new OS 30VG w/RS. I hooked it up (after I took it apart and cleaned it) and while I was at it I also installed the CEN alloy racing clutch shoes (red) and 1.1 springs. Some notes on the engine install. 1) I was able to use the stock CEN motor mounts but they hit the Roto Start flange and I had to mill a 1mm groove in the mount. 2) the stock mount sat a little too low and the Roto Start hit the chassis, I was going to mill a small slot in the chassis but I was in a hurry so I used a few washers to get a little more clearence. 3) Clutch Bell sticks out about 1mm more than the stock motor, very close to the spur but no contact. 4) I had to rotate the carb, spin the fuel intake around and adjust the carb ball mount to clear the chassis brace.

New engine

Mounted in the car and ready to go.

Shark, that OS 30 VG is a monster. I have one thats an EB Mod OS 30 in a 1/7th scale buggy. The thing still accelerates like a raped ape. Even with gearing thats taller than stock. I think you'll be very happy with that motor.

Oh yah, if youre shopping for clutch shoes, the blue CEN clutch shoes would be better for a truggy than the red ones. The blue ones are heavier (slightly) and meant for truggies. Part number is GSS16.

Rip up the tracks with that Arena TR!!!!

s5lin, thanks for the info I will check out the blue clutch shoes. Since the "reds" are lighter, maybe I will use the 1.0mm springs. Can't wait to fire up this motor. It came down to the Picco .28 and the OS 30vg, I got a good deal on the OS plus I like the roto start feature (backup to my starter box). Also I have a OS 18TM in my Revo and it runs great and is very easy to tune.

The tank looks to be in normal config. Just like on my Matrix.

When he flipped the fuel intake, he's talking about the little brass fuel intake on the carb. Not on the tank. Annie_himself, I think you thought he said the tank's fuel intake was flipped around.

Yah for most 1/8 cars and trucks, the engine always comes with the fuel nipple the wrong way for me. Always gotta flip that sucker around. I got a Radical 628 in my truggy and that engine hauls serious A!!!!! Set that engine up with a novarossi longer header/ mugen msr1005 pipe. Had to use a 15T clutch bell to tame the sucker down in terms of torque. But I like that Picco .28 as well. Got one in another truggy that was built before I got the CEN. Puts out good power, but I think the Radical is stronger everywhere in the powerband.

Actually now that I think of it, quite a few Matrix TRs I've seen around here have the Radical (OPS made). For an upcoming magazine review, I know one of the editors got the radical for this TR, another buddy got one, I got one. Not to mention Andy Smolnik is also running one.

Oh yah if you want a Radical Engine give Headrush Hobbies a call if ur looking for a Radical Engine. Got a decent price from him on the Radical Engines. As you can tell I kinda got more motors than I do cars. hahaha.

Ok another update for those thinking of changing out the engine. Like I said in my earlier post, there were a couple of issues 1) with the stock motor mounts in the stock position the bell is very close to the spur 2) the motor has to sit higher to clear the roto/pull start housing. I added spacers to raise the motor so it fits but I found out now the flywheel is too high and my starter box wheel won't reach it. I originally was going to mill a slot in the chassis for clearence but got lazy and just used spacers to raise the motor. After the flywheel/starter box problem I decided to do it right. I milled out a "T" shaped slot in the chassis about 1.5 mm deep. This gave the motor clearence so I didn't have to use the spacers, now the motor sits at the stock height and the flywheel now reaches the starter box wheel. I also discovered those CEN guys were pretty smart. At first I thought the stock motor mounts were symmetrical, but I discovered that if you flip them around they move the motor back about 1.5mm, which lined up my clutch bell and spur perfectly. Now the new motor sits in the chassis just like the old stock motor.

Hey Shark. The motor mounts are like for a good reason. I don't know if you knew or not, but some engines have a slightly different crankcase mount position. Such as Picco and Novarossis are the two standards.

The Picco spacing and the Novarossi are actually different. If you notice some aftermarket part manufacturers actually use two different spacing plates. One meant for piccos and one meant for Novas. I am not sure which mount pattern OS used.

But, once again, go RIP with that Arena TR and the OS 30!!!!!!!

I am curious about the Radical.... stronger then a Picco 28 wow thats impressive.... is it smooth or is it a beast, and what kind of run times you getting ?

s5lin, I ran the OS 30vg this weekend and you are right, insane power. Had some issues with it running rich which I could not figure out (rich but running temps of 240-250). This was hurting the accelleration big time. Sent you a PM with more info.

needle settings are way off.......
sounds like your low speed is Lean and high speed is rich...
it happens .....
do this it will run funny but this is only to get you back in the "BallPark" settings....
bottom out your high speed needle "SLOWLY" to where it just stops do not keep going ...
now back out to the recommeded setting for the high speed needle....if your not sure most manufactures will have it out 3 to 3 1/2 turns out....or Flush with the needle body...
now back out the low speed needle out a few turns...
it's going to run funny, but were gonna get it tuned for ya...
ok, now set the "Idle Screw" a little high so the ventrui is open more...
we'll reset this later.....
if you have a box this will help Majorly!!!
now start the car you'll have to keep on the throttle cause may stall.....
and keep te Igniter on as well.......(just for now)

now i'll "Assume" you have already run some tanks through it????
and plug is good and Clutch is in good shape or new??

so, while it's on the box and do not set the low speed yet.........
keep hitting the gas and "Slowly" lean out the high speed needle......
the it will want to bog while your hitting the gas so do not worry about that yet....
if it is not bogging when you hit the gas richen up the low speed for now.....
remember it's going to be a Bear to keep at idle so do not worry on this as yet as well....
when you have the high speed close you'll know as when it hits the end of it's power band
it will have a crazy high pitch....every motor is a little different but you'll know...
as it will want to wind out!!! now do not stay on the throttle no load on the motor too long could snap the crank...
now back it out about "3 clicks" or 3 hours as they say....if not sure think of the high speed needle as the hours on a clock...12 is at the top 6 is at the bottom 3 O'Clock is at th right and 9 O'clock is to the left....now "Where ever the Needle is sitting pick that point and back out 3 hours....
now best thing from here is to go to the track where you may be running...
if this is not practical
we'll move on....
now once the high speed is "Close" we'll set the low end needle
start the car again.....get it up to a warm temp but not over 220 etc........
but at least warm etc....run for about a minute or so....
now, turn in the low speed in about an hour and goose the throttle let it settle if it dies no problem were trying to get to the good setting....
now keep turning in a little at a time to where it wont die you'll also notice it will want to idle much higher...back out the idle scew a little so the motor is not reving out.....
if not idleing higher no worries it's just still rich ........

now during this time can be running up and down street etc....
this will be much better to do this.....
and keep checking the temp....run up and down in a long straight "Listen"
to see how it sounds...should be nice and "Crisp" at "Speed"
if it is running pretty fast and the temp is low then leave it alone 200 to 240 is fine....
now set the rest of low end settings....
bring car in peg the throttle a few times not too long!!!
if the car idles high then drops in a few seconds...
turn in the low speed in a click...
set it back down run it in the street for a a few seconds.....
bring back in rev it up a few seconds....
listen to the Idle....if it idles high then drops turn in the low speed another click....
if during this time you did not need to do any settings, then lower the Idle screw just to the point where the Clutch doesn't engage the bell.....
then you can also check the low speed by pinching the fuel line as well...
if when you pinch close to the inlet....if it speeds up right away and wants to die...low speed is too lean... if you pinch it and runs more than 5 seconds it's a little rich.....
but make sure you have set the High speed needle "First".....
the high speed needle "Dictates" the overall total amount of fuel comming into the car....
if still having some problems can also write us at Razorgrafix23@hotmail.com
hope this can help......

Sooo, the Arena really pissed me off today. I got Gene Hickerson's diff kit and decided to install it today. Used a heat gun, pliers for a firm grip and a hex and the damn screws wont go loose for nothing. Now i'm stuck using an EZ out to get the screws out. I'm in the process of removing them. I'll let u guys know how that went. The truck is awesome so far, dont let me misleading you, I love it... it's those screws that are a pain in the butt.
