I've just started on mine... I have a set of Century jet retracts to install. Is there any need or value to modifying the mount to move the gear forward, or does the model handle fine as is?

hey scaleARFman, I am almost done with mine. I am waiting on my gear from Darrell.
I used a G45 up front, and so far it will take no additional dead weight to CG.

other than that Robert, I cant tell ya anymore

how is yours still flying Ty?

I am so bad when it comes to planes. I just love new things.. I just sold mine. I had no problems with the gear location for the Sierra Gear. I don't know if the location is any different for the CJM gear or not. It flew well with no really bad nose over problems.. The only thing I would look into is putting a little rake in the tail wheel. going striaght down it really like to bounce the tail....

Toddster, I knew it was only a matter of time before you ventured over to the dark side. The CJ retracts appear to be 90 deg, as opposed to the Sierra at 95. Doubt the 5 degrees will matter if the location is fine for the Sierra's. I am using a B&M unit (from Yellow Aircraft) for the tail. Power is Revolution 52.

Do you guys think a G45 is enough engine for this airplane?

Thanks,
Tony

I went to order one from Skyshark only to find out the shipping cost is $64.95. It is just me or is that kind of pricey for shipping?

Thanks,
Tony

The shipping charge is very fair. Shipping a box of that size and weight does cost that amount. I have also bought other planes from other manufacturers and the price has been 2 to 2.5 times that amount.
A shipping charge for some other 50cc sized planes cost $90.

I noticed that one company (not Skyshark) I have bought before has lowered their shipping down from 190 to 90, but the price of the plane went up by the difference.

Ok, thanks for the info. I have not ordered a plane that size so I was shocked at that price.

I have just finished my P 40. I put sierra retracts on it looks great. I put a DL 50 engine in it perfect fit. Have not run it yet but everyone that i have talked to said they have had good luck with the DL 50. The plane is a little fat 23lbs12 oz. I am going to replace the tires that should remove 8oz. anything helps. I will try to put some pictures in later.

If you are at 23 lbs that about right. I cut all the weight I could. and was still at 23 lbs dry.. Still flew very nice....
