What did you do to make the retract covers more rounded? The stock ones are a little square!

I hav''nt gotten my P-40 yet. It should be here today according to the UPS tracking system. I have been told the you can get stock looking retract covers from http://www.vicrc.com/products_p40.htm they are only $25.00. I have seen pictures of these retracts cover installed on the Skyshark P-40 and they look like the stock cover should. I plan on getting a set for my P-40N.

Will I'm on my way with the build. I have the wing completed and waiting for my century jet retracts to be droped in. I did have some small problems with the fuselage. It seem the plywood supports for the fuselage where glued in useing hot glue or someting like that. They came lose when I was drilling my wing support holes into the fuslage. I used Gorrila glue to put them back in and it looks like it is glued together better know. Did any of you find the wing to be a really tight fit into the wing carriage of the body? Mine fits so tight I don't even think I need any wing bolts to hold the wing on. I will still use the 1/4x20 blnd nuts and bolts for the wing.

I installed the Centruy Jet retracts tonight and the droped with only a little work on the wheel mounts. I hope to be finished with the plane this weekend. I need to get me an air pump so I can test these retracts. I guess I'll call Century Jet to see what they have.

I'll take some tonight and uplead them. I am going to have to cut the cowl some for my carb and muffler and I am a little nervous about it. that cowl look so awsome and I really want to do a good job. I just got my 1/5 scale pilot figure and it is a bust of John Wayn from the movie "Flying Tigers" It looks really cool. I'll take a picture of it also.

Hi Jim,

I recently completed my Skyshark P-40, waiting for some decent weather without gusty winds to maiden it. Mine has a G62 crammed under the hood. Looking forward to your maiden flight report because I'm a bit nervous about flying it. I'm currently flying a Hanger-9 150 Mustang and the 150 Thunderbolt, and the big Thunderbolt (Saito 180) is a real pu$$ycat, love that plane. The wing loading on the P-40 is much higher, so it's going to fly differently than the relativly easy to fly Hanger-9 warbirds, but I understand the P-40 flys good too. <I hope, I hope>

Good Luck!

Sonny

Sonny,

Do you ave any pics of how cut the cowl for your G-62. I am very nervous about cutting my cowl, but if I want to use the XYZ-50 engine it will have to be done. I hope to maiden the plane within the next couple of weeks.

jim if it will make you feel better ,i always buy two cowls just for that reason. in my case with the keleo exhaust i have to split the cowl for it to work. if you want i can send you the bottom of my practice cowl for you to make your cuts before ruining yours. i don't mind if you cut it, but just send it back in case i do need it one day. if you want it e-mail me your address and i'll get it out tomorrow.

Jeff,

Thanks for that wonderful offer, but I think I can really make the cute without to much trouble. I still think the cowl is a work of art and just don't like the idea of cutting it. I know once i have made the cut it will be OK. if I do really mess it up I can always buy another cowl.

I am with you about the cowl Jim, I am planning on getting a DL50 when I get a round to building the P-40 so I can keep the cutting to a minimum.

Jim,

I'll post some cowling pics when back in town this coming weekend, having two cowls is definatly a good idea, I have a spare cause the first cutout was on the money. Getting that G62 into that slim fitting cowl was tricky to say the least.

Sonny,

How did the cg come out on your P-40? Did you have to add any weight and where did you mount your servo's? I mounted my servo's in the fuselage where the wing mounts.
