Thanks

What plugs? The Picco what? And Odonnell what?

Much appreciated

Ben

I had been running the picco med temp plug, (I think the # was 51007) but they are $10 a plug (yeah thats alot) so we (me, my and my dad) started buying odonnell sport purple #002, or the odonnell 99 will work too, I know a few people run the MC8 or the MC59 plug in the STS (the MC59 is used for break-in) but try the plug before re shimming it

what! here the picco is $10 and the odonnell is $4.99 or maybe $4.49

I had got an engine that had a OS #8 in it, and those are short plugs, I didn't know they where that short, but there about 1mm-2mm shorter then the picco's

Ye the Picco considerably cheaper, but the OD more expensive....strange lol

So either would be ok to try and see if it helps my running?

And what shim should I take out, just the alu one? Or should I only do that, if the neither GP helps?

Ben

um, I heard the alum shim is only for break-in and should be taken out after break-in because it don't seal good, but I still have all the shims in my two STS. you wan to watch for (I forget what its called) but if you take too many out the engine will fire before the piston makes it to TDC and cause the pistons to go back down. one way to tell if its doing this is after running the piston will have little bumps, (maybe some one else could explain)

The STS 30 is not new!

its newer then the 28 and 21B

All 3 of them take the same crank so if that guy does not stock them then he does not stock early or late parts!

that S21T sounds like an engine for me, I wonder what it would be like if you send it off to ABmods and get it modded, or if the timing is as far as you could go with it

I think I now my next two engines, STS S21T, and picco/jammin 28 (but it will be a while.)

I do not know about the STS 5 port 28 but do know on the S21T the stroke is shorter and the bore bigger then any of the other STS 21 and the stroke is shorter then the 3 port 28 and 30 as well. This should be a very good improvement.

Cool thread

I have a Sav with an STS .28 engine, love it, but I have temperature problems....

I will go for about 4-5 minutes, doing 1/2 throttle speed runs, and come back, and sometimes the temperature is at 280-300F. Why is this? I can't be lean, as i richened the HSN by 1/8th a turn to compensate for running on grass....

Any ideas? And also, it won't wheely like some of the ones I've seen, they put no effort in at all.....mine, I have to use a kerb or something

Thanks

Ben

* Oh - and I also still have all 3 head shims in place, and I'm running 25% O'Donnells fuel, OS#8 Glowplug

Anything else you need to know?

Have you sealed the engine? STS takes a standard long plug and the OS plug is a short plug. How much fuel have you run through it so far? My STS 3 port 28 in my Savage even running on grass does not get that hot. If you look at the instruction sheet they list recommend head shimming for different nitro contents. One other thing are you running O'Donnell race blend or the Ready 2 Run? The race blend is fine and the Ready 2 Run has to much oil which can cause over heating.

I thought so too, but a guy I know who does timing mods to these engines, said the 21B has a crank duration of 210 degrees and the 30 has a duration of 240 degrees, but I will know when I time my engines my self. (I have to get the degree wheel first)

Well the part number for all 3 is the same so I do not see how. I do think you where mis informed or that guy got a crank that was manufactured wrong.

yeah, I was wondering about that, but we'll see, I'll send you the timings of all my engines when I get them timed (don't know when that will be)

Yes the S21T looks like the engine to get if you are going with a STS 21. Even if I ran a truggy which I might one day I still would go with a 21 do to fuel economy. I have gotten well over 10 minutes of run time on my STS D21B.

a truggy really isn't that much heavier then a buggy, my CRT weighs about the same as my rtr buggy accounting to the states on-line.

Most I know running a truggy run a 21 do to fuel economy which can make a BIG difference in a race.
