yeah, the warranty part was a joke . i was going to go with an rb in the truggy and have 2 sts's as backup/buggy engines, didn't make it though. i got 9 gallons out of 2 engines (for about $250 total) and a lot of fun, so it was worth it. i know i can run with an sts with anybody, i'll take it apart this week to see what can be done and i'll see what needs to be ordered. i know it will be a couple weeks before any of it gets here so i'll have to wait a bit. i needed a break anyways, this rc stuff has really taken a lot of my time in the last couple weeks. i may go rb next or back to sts or try go or picco. we'll see. i wish i had left one un modded to see if that would extend engine life any vs modded performance.

I have had 5 STS engines and the only one to this point I have had real problems with was RBmods modified. It never did run properly and the fuel consumption was terrible. It did not make 3 or 4 gallons if that. Like I said does not matter what engine you get you need to check the bearings and rod every couple of gallons. Keep in mind the RPM these things turn and the power they make to be so small! Did you ever check either of your STS engines? I know a guy that had a Jammin 21 which is the same thing as a Pico and the rear bearing went out in a couple of gallons. No I am not saying it is a bad engine just trying to prove a point. I have seen many V Spec have the rod and bearings go bad with in 3 gallons same thing with RB engines. One thing is for sure you can replace parts on a STS a WHOLE lot cheaper then most other brands!!!!!!!!!!!!

true, the problem is it takes 2 weeks to get here from hk. and who knows how long that will be around too. i checked them about a month ago after the last state race, the conrod on the older one had a little play starting at tdc, everything else was spotless and clean. carb orings were good, no air leaks and pinch was still excellent. after that i turned my attention to clutch bearings and diff issues, also trying different fuels and testing fuel economy. i think the sts's are great, just sucks they both died on the same week. the new rb's are out now and the S5 is about $220, i'll probably try them out or the S3 at $180. i just don't know how much longer sts will be around. 5 gallons is not bad for $124, 5 fast, powerful, easy tuning, problem free gallons at that.

what breaks a crank shaft? by breaking i mean snap in two. i was running sidewinder race 30%, with dynamite max-life shoes, 1.1 springs and panther gator med-soft tires. the track was still in pretty good shape after racing. could the power and traction from tires and clutch actually cause the failure? or could it be poor design. looking at the crank shaft it seems to be made of very thin metal.

As i say, STS are very prone to breaking cranks..so prone that I refuse to modify or run STS........

Any standard long plug. I run MC-8 and Byrons 25% Race Blend. www.nitrocountryrc.com sells the engines and parts.

i'm running, or was running, the odonnell 99 plug, ODO99 med-cold with byron's gen2 3000. engine ran absolutely flawless and very easy to tune. maybe it had a bit too much power.

Isn't that for rich/cold conditions though? Personally I never pay attention, my engine runs awesome with whatever I stick in it

Running different plugs is how you adjust the ignition timing on the engines we run. If you know what you are doing and what to watch out for you can fine tune an engine by different heat range of glow plugs.

Copy and paste
Glow plug temperature is controlled by using different heat range plugs. Just like automobile spark plugs, glow plugs come in different heat ranges from hot to cold with maybe half a dozen steps in between. If in doubt, use the plug specified by the engine manufacturer. Using a hotter plug than normal will advance the ignition point and a colder plug will retard the igniti

So whats the best truggy engine?
The STS D28M 5 PORT or the STS D28M 3 PORT? The 5 port is $15 more, not sure why, I assume the 3 port doesnt rev as hard but gets better fuel economy?
