Can someone please tell me where I can buy a bump start backplate for an STS D28M? I looked on nitrocountyrc.com with no success.

I pulled out a second place finish last weekend at our local track in the Truggy main. The S21T w/STS 0403 pipe is still running like a champ. The fuel mileage was insane. I was able to get an amazing 11 minutes out of the tank without a carb insert. I am in love with this Mugen MBX5T. I've raced it three weekends and have always finished first or second in all quals and mains except once. One qual I finished third. I have almost four gallons of Byrons Gen2 25% Race Blend through the engine. I am trying to see how many gallons I can get out of this engine. Hopefully, it will last a while.

So you are liking the Mugen more then the Hyper ? How do you find the Mugen's steering ? did you trim your pillow blocks ?

Are you running the newer STS 21, as in the new grey head short stroke motor ?

I'm driving the Mugen much better than I drove my Hyper. The Hyper definetly turns better than the Mugen. The Mugen tends to push a lot. I think c-hubs are much better for steering. The Mugen flies better and is much easier to control in the air than the Hyper. They both are durable as hell. I only broke one part on my Hyper and that was a rear plastic hub. The one thing I love about the Mugen is that it has lock nuts on most of the plastic parts. You can tighten down parts without stripping out the plastic. They are both good trucks, but for some reason I am much faster with the Mugen. I can not really explain it, but I do not want to mess up a good thing.

I am running the new S21T with the greyish/green head. It is definetly different than past STS engine. It does not have that ridiculous pinch and it does not take as much fuel to break it in. You can break this engine in just like any other engine. It holds a tune and is sealed up pretty well. The only thing I recommend doing is taking out the low speed needle on the carb and putting "plumbers tape" around the threads. That screw can back in or out on it's own. (my engine did). I'm just waiting to see how many gallons I can get through this engine.

The STS 28 5-port truggy engine was too much power for racing. I ran it in my Hyper ST and it was just too much. It was great on fuel mileage. I could get almost 8 minutes on a tank. You would easily over shoot jumps and had a lot of tire spin. It had crazy top and bottom end. I ran much better with the Go-Tech .21 5-port. The 28 requires a driver with good throttle control. STS is coming out with a newer version of their 28 5-port truggy engine. It will have the greyish/green head as well.

There are soooooo many companies making new vehicles and engines. I think this is a good thing. It forces companies to make better quality products at a cheaper cost. Take Novarossi for example. They have a new 28 truggy engine coming out and it is less than $280. In the past they would have been charging at least $350 for any 28. I'm excited about all the new products that are coming out.

p.s.

I think the Byrons Gen2 fuel has a lot to do with the performance of my engines. I am totally sold on their product.

On the STS web site, it says the new S28 has a Italian piston in it. nitrocountryrc.com has them for $184.99

supertib, are you going to try the new "S" series STS engines?

I totally agree. I think the extra weight makes it more difficult to control in the air. There is a post out there in the truggy section that makes a valid point. You have to review trucks based on the style of tracks they run on. American tracks are rough with a lot of big jumps. European tracks are long, smooth, and have smaller jumps. If you want to see the difference, go to Youtube and you will notice the dramatic styles in track. That is why you see alot of Hyper STs doing well in Europe, but not so well in the US. Their style of tracks better suites the vehicle. The Mugen does well in the US because it is light and is easy to control in the air. This really applies to the durability issues. Xray is a good example of this. They are a high end vehicle, but they all come with plastic parts. Their tracks do not require all the cnc metals. They make all those cnc upgrades for the American tracks.

This goes for a lot of engines as well. You do not see a lot of European guys using 28's in there vehicles. Their tracks do not require a lot of bottom end, it requires top end. So when we make these argumets about who and what is best, we need to judge them within context.

I will likely not be trying one.... I still would love to tune one and see how they run...... But in the end I have permanently switched to the higher end motors..........I do love the way most of my STS motors ran when they ran....

I was running beside Integra with his 8T... he was effortlessly clearing all the big jumps like a gazelle...my poor Hyper was having issues making the jumps, even with a os 28............ I love the way the Hyper steers, but it definitely flies nose heavy and seems really reluctant to leave the ground......... I have no issue with air control ( or least not so far) I am just having issues getting enough air........ The 8T springs so much higher and further then the Hyper, ......I am impressed with the Hyper for sure, but it definitely needs to go on a diet......

I am guessing you guys are talking about the Hyper ST? I run the Hyper 8 and 8.5 buggy with out any complaints. Will be switching to the Hyper 9 next year and cannot wait till they make the 9 T which will be a whole new ball game.

As far as a glow plug run a standard long plug not the short OS plug. In my D21B I run a McCoy 59 on 30 percent nitro.

I can't get www.nitrocountyrc.com to come up on my comp. It just says "page cannot be displayed". Is anyone else having this problem? I was going to go on there and get some clutch shoes and it won't let me on.
