A while ago during the summer a hobby shop owner recommended i try cool power 10% synthetic. Mind you I broke the engine (TH .46) in on wildcat premium, which is a blend of 80/20 castor/synth. On the wildcat the engine runs great..transistion is smooth as silk, even while inverted on my H9 arest. Tested out the cool power today and my god it ran like trash. Of course the needles required some tweaking, but after spending my whole day tweaking i gave up. Now i have read on here that its foolish to run straight synthetic on an ABC engine like the TH .46. After my exprience today i have to agree. Most people at the field run similar (abc) engines on the same fuel and things are just fine. So what gives? Why wont my TH .46 drink the popular green stuff?

Because a good ABC engine places quite a demand on the strength of the oil film created by the lube in your fuel -- and most synthetics simply aren't up to the job without some support from a bit of castor.

I would *never* recommend that anyone runs an ABC engine with CoolPower's synth oil -- this blend (IMHO) is strictly for ringed engines where the demands on the oil are much lower.

Stick to your castor/synth blend, you'll be happier with the results and your engine will last a lot longer as a result.

Wildcat okay, but I agree with the post from XJet. A blend of 30% castor and 70% synthetic and 10% nitro will run your engine great. I would NOT run your green snot through this engine. Power Master is fine. In my view, 17% oil for your engine and all synthetic is NOT best for long life and easy starting. Lean runs with this fuel can shorten the life of your engine. As per my other posting, make sure there is at least 5% castor or more. SIG fuels have HALF castor and HALF synthetic and 20% total oil. This is a great break-in and even running fuel for your engine. Some folks (okay a lot of folks) hate the castor on the plane after a run. Just remember, that same rust-preventing castor is all over your crankshaft, sleeve, rod and connecting rod TOO! Use either a AA castor or racing castor like Benol or other racing castor, the latter two have a higher film strength and the castor oils form polymers and help protect your engine on lean runs and hot days! About 8 ounces per gallon gives you about 5% castor. In my experience, XJet's reply is on the money. Enjoy your nice engine. With care, you can expect a couple hundred hours out of it. The old fuel mixing dinosaur.

I feel the need to stick my 2 cents worth on this one. I have a super tigre 90 and two gms .76s, both are ringed engines mind you and they are supposed to like synthetic fuel right? Wrong! I could take off rich using straight cool power and about two minutes later land dead stick and you could feel the engine temp higher than normal, I fixed that problem with four extra ounces of castor oil and no more problems, I didn't even have to keep them rich because of the extra lube, next time someone says cool power fuel I'll say-*&^%$#@ @#$%^&* to morgan fuels, And to top it off you can't even get ahold of the manufacturer so what does that tell you HUH?

Not all synthetics are made the same -- as I've discovered recently.

I've switched from running 18% CoolPower to running 12% of Cooper's Plus C and my engines are now running cooler and stronger than ever before, with absolutely no sign of any increase in wear.

I would *never* dare run such a low percentage of CoolPower (with or without a little castor) but the Coopers oil certainly seems to be a whole heap better and I'm now prepared to trust my TT46Pros, SuperTigres and even my Saitos to it.

Whats the ratio of your Coopers Plus C from synthetic to caster? 60/40.... etc?

I don't know how much castor is in Cooper's Plus C oil -- but it certainly seems to be enough to provide great protection without any perceptible varnishing or build-up.

I think that when you use a good quality synthetic, only a very small percentage (of your total fuel volume) needs to be castor in order to gain the benefits.
