I'm new to building power planes so I have no experience at securing fuel tanks. My Great Planes .60 Piper Cub has a 16 oz. Great Planes fuel tank. The plans suggest 1/2 inch of foam on top and below the tank. This makes a nice snug top/bottom fit into the space for the tank. However, there is all kinds of room on both sides of the tank.

What is the best way to secure the tank in this space? Thanks for your ideas.

Not too familiar with this particular plane, but I know most all GP kits have a tank floor of some sort. I use zip-ties where there is room, and cinch the tank to the floor. It holds tight, and if it needs to come out, just a snip and it's out. This will work for most, provided you have enough room to cinch it..
