If it's suited as a trainer, why would you have to ask instructors if they thought it would work as one?

IT flys like a tank but when you race it WOW! for me fourth flight first flight with out the trainer stuff and with the 10x6 prop the ace in the F14 was in the lead 2nd lap the f22 took the lead I never knew this plane was this fast till next time falcongt

One cause for your crash may be this: The Raptor at low speeds has a fun little roll mode that starts. I have figured it out, so I expect it, and can deal with it. But its there, and you need to watch for it. Even on takeoff, but you usually don't see it cause you build up speed so fast and the mode stops.

Glad that damage was minimal though. These are tough birds!

I noticed it on the FS One sim! It's like its trying to roll off a big ball of dense air, and keeping it on top is like balancing a bean bag on a basketball, if that makes any sense... Pick up some speed and it goes away.

Yep the Raptor's skeleton, with its many tight fitting laser-cut parts, it pretty sturdy, for what it is. Give it that. I must add that I really like the .52 engine too. Not super ultra precise, but really great for $100 ( I got a good deal from RC Supply) and very forgiving - great for a nitro nOOB like me.

Glad that it shows up the sim, that means the model is pretty accurate.

I am currently working on a way to mitigate the roll mode, I think a gyro is the best solution, turn it on for landing and let it hold wings level.

those 5 have all got to say there are better trainers to start on!

Are there BETTER trainers to start on? Sure there are. But what's the best trainer on the market? And why doesn't everyone use it if it's the best? Because not everyone likes the way it looks, or flies.

The H-9 PTS series is for those people who don't want to start out with an "Ugly, boxy airplane". H-9 put a lot of R&D into creating planes that a beginner can be taught with PROVIDING THEY TRAIN WITH A QUALIFIED INSTRUCTOR AND BUDDY BOX.

So now, those people who refuse to start out with a basic trainer have several options.

I wasn't ASKING them, I was SHOWING them. I was letting them fly it so they could see for themselves how nicely it flies.

Yep, preachin' to the choir here. I love Da Plane, DA PLANE, boss! heh

I could gush over it for hours but that would be boring!

Each nOOB must decide for themselves: Boxy and easy to fly, with lots of lift and self-correcting characteristics, or fast and flashy, with higher wing loading, needing more skill up front.

That's why sim time is so vital - it let's you choose your style before you buy your plane. I logged lots of sim time before I bought my F22 ARF. For me, it was time to try my first nitro plane, and man, that FS One is some INTENSE marketing for those planes!! whew...

In other news:

I tried H9 to get my replacement nose wheel steering parts, but they don't sell!! Ack! They will sell you the whole fuselage for $72 (which I think is GREAT in case of total disaster) but not the small parts therein.

So, from my LHS I ordered a DUBRO Cat. No. 152 nose gear kit. Looks like it should do perfect, and only 5 bucks. More later!

DuBro #152 Works!

This repair was more difficult that it should have been, but I got it!

Firstly, the manufacturer used to much of a too strong Lock Tite or something on the screws that secure the steering gear. The top two screws came out with difficulty but were ok, but the bottom two stripped.

So, I had to chisel out the wood that secures in the gas tank. Well the book said to glue it!! Next time, I'll use screws so I can remove the gas tank without a chisel!!

After that board was chiseled out and the gas tank removed, the little wood plank under the gas tank popped right out with my fingers! Not enough glue there, or they knew something... ?

Anyway, that revealed the stripped blind nuts on the bottom there. I chiseled out the rest of the broken plastic, and that allowed pliers to grip the blind nuts. If not, I'm screwed!!@!@!@!

After a lot if difficulty, the ruined blind nuts are removed. The bulkhead wood has two mangled holes in it.

So, my hobby genius kicks in and I get a small piece of very strong and light plywood (from another totally unrelated hobby), press it down on the exposed screws to mark my holes, and drill it out to accept the new blind nuts included in the DuBro #152 kit.

It was then pretty easy to install the new DuBro Nose Wheel Steering Gear Bracket, as shown. Look the holes line up perfectly!!! WOOT!!

All the other damage around the bottom is purely cosmetic - I can just tape over it. The bulkhead wood is what is critical, and its still in perfect condition.

Next steps - reinstall the nose gear with the new Steering Arm, set up the linkages again, check the servo travel, test the motor with a new prop, and we should be ready to fly again!! WOOT!!

In other news:

I went over my whole Raptor this weekend. Got the landing gear and steering all fixed, made some minor improvements to the pushrod system, and partially tore down the motor for detail inspection and cleaning. I removed the piston and cylinder and cleaned everything. I re-installed the motor and and re-adjusted the throttle linkage. It is now totally perfect and i can completely close and open the throttle with the appropriate radio inputs. I also set the motor back about 4mm or so, as it was jammed all the way forward before (I was making sure the CG was more forward initially).

Fired up the motor for a test - all pass! This is a cool motor, only up to maybe 150 deg. F. after several minutes of running with varying throttle. I got a couple spare props all nicely balanced on that magetic swing thing. Great desk toy too, and it balances props perfectly. At full throttle, she just ran smooth - super loud roar too! WOOT!! Yes I removed the baffle from the muffler. And what a nice, smooth, calm, slow running idle. Just a great thing!

This nitro thing is turning out to be pretty cool! So its a bit oily and smelly but I don't mind the cleanup work.

I also went over the whole plane with a sealing iron and removed all the wrinkles from the covering. Sweet! Came out perfect.

I wanna take her up again this weekend!! She'll be ready! This time, I will make a nice landing!! I am detirmined!

I am also building up a nice H9 field box, to keep all my toys together - 12V battery, starter, glow starter, fuel, fuel pump, radio, etc. No more running around trying to get everything ready for fligh
