Status: offline 		Markind sorry about your loss. I had a very successful flight with mine and I have three extra servos. Two for the elevators one for the rudders and two for the flaps. Set everything up sos everything was nuetrial (later on I had a friend set up my flaps, later on I would like to try for flaperons) Taxied serval times up and down the runway then tried a couple high speed runs (SK 50 engine 11/7 APC prop) On the second high speed run throttled down and she lifted about 6" off the ground Got my nerve back checked batteries, refueld and took a deep breath. Taxied out checked controls (checked knees)and off we went. She rolled about 100' and she lifted off. Did a couple laps then got a little higher and started to trim setting about three click of up and about four clicks of right aileron. Talk about speed she realy got up and went and the engine isn't totally broke in. No wing tips or fixed flaps and no three bladed prop. Linded up for landing milked her down and was ready to throttle back and settle in but noticed running out of runway so throttled up and went around. Next approach a little slower and lower. Touched wheels throttled down and was bleeding off speed and getting ready to taxi back when a gust of wind blew her over . Broke the fire wall out and a prop was all the damage I have her repaired and ready for her next mission. I'm very pleased with the flying caraturistics of my plane and don't plan on changing a thing execpt on the next flight will try flaps.

Yes I was a little bummed out, but only for a moment. I am now even more detirmined to master this model.

The Flaps thing is a combo of radio setup, skill, and wind / conditions. Just have to find the sweet spot. Looking forward to next sortie!

Status: offline 		Has any body thought about retracts yet on their Raptor. I have and was looking at another forum in the jet segment and one guy is building a glassed one and from the looks of his retract he is using standard retracts which are wrong for a scale look. The mains kindof fold up like a 6F6 does. But thinking about how the side armenment doors are it shouldn't be too much a problem to go ahead with standard retracts. Cause at about 85 to 100 mph who cares about scale retract should fly faster though. Opnions anybody?

Status: offline 		I thought seriously about this mod, but decided this plane looks just fine flying around with its tough wire landing gear.

The Retracts Mod is a lot of work - and this plane is, being supposedly for newbies (an exellent entry-level PropJet in any case!), is at high risk of crash, generally speaking.

This from a guy who just totalled his fuselage... heh

My advice, worth exactly $0.02, is don't bother until you step up into a more advanced aircraft. When I am REALLY good at this Raptor, I plan on stepping up into THIS. And it's not even 'retracts ready'. doh...

Status: offline 		Ahhh got my new ARF kit last night! I expertly unpacked and sorted it, and got all the packaging neatly packed and out for recycling. Amazing how much smoother it was the second time around. No torn plastic or damaged boxes - all clean and neat. Rebirth begins tonight...

Status: offline 		hi dude, its a ok flying air plane. BUT DEFEMTLY NOT A TRAINER!!!!!!!!!!!! i just flew mine today and its very "touchy" in the air. remember it flys like a "real jet" (fast and agile in the air) it flys fast and lands FAST!!! too. so whatch out and fly it carefully. i have ALL JR servoes in the plane and it flys with arthority in a 20+mph wind. now that being said. spend the money an get the O.S. .55AX. it flys it well. but i'm still putting a tune pipe (MAC PIPE) on mine i whouls also suggest to anyone out there with "ait time under there belts" to put 20%-40% expo, in the radio. like i said eailer it touchy in the air. even at 1/2 throttle.

Yep, I was at 30% EXP on the AILE channel, and even with a modest throw (I think +/- 1 inch) she has a great roll rate but was still quite touchy in the wind. 40% I will try next.

On this new build, I will do the Elevators more carefully. On my last build, I could not get enough Down without straining the servo. I am set for about 20% EXP on the Elevator and I think I'll keep that for now as it seems ok.

I have been working the Rudders a lot on the sim. I need to change my mix as a result. The Rudder input does not move this plane like it would move a vertical rudder plane. Its WEIRD, in fact.

Basically, a little Rudder input initiates a nice Roll and the plane begins to turn. Too much Rudder and she gets into a weird state - the tail does not slide around much and you really have to work the ailerons to maintain your angle AND the elevator to maintain your altitude.

Thus, this plane seems incapable of flat turns! Gotta bank 'em. Also, this makes the Rudder 'less helpful' in lining up with the runway for landings.

I think I will reduce the Rudder throw, eliminate the Rudder to negative Aileron mix (or set it down to about 5%, maybe 10% at most), AND change my flying habits to use less rudder and fly her more like I fly my Stryker, which has no rudder. This should keep me out of those unstable flight modes I've been seeing on the sim.

Status: offline 		My replacement ARF has come together quickly and nicely!

This one is even better than my first - the fuselage and wings are perfect! And the nose strenght mod is already installed!

Yesterday I had time to get all the linkages and steering working a dialed in, and I was up 'till wee hours finishing the cowling and landing gear.

I also installed balsa braces on the steering bulkhead - if I'm OFF the runway the coil spring in the nose strut should do its job without damaging the fuselage. And I adjusted the wheels to not spin so freely - a little static breaking should help keep her ON the runway.

Its perfect, sunny calm flying day - this time we'll get her down soft.

Always say that when the battle is just beginning

Yep had a great flying day today, but could only do 1 tank of fuel and 2 landings with the Raptor (I was flying electrics today too).

First landing, not too bad but enough bounce to pop down on the prop, which snapped it. No prob, just replaced it.

Next landing was WOOT!!! I came down nice, but a gust of wind popped me up about 6 feet, so had to flare again, which resulted in a slight bounce. The final touchdown was feather soft! Because I had adusted the wheels to give me some static braking, she just barely went off the runway - in fact the rear wheels stayed on the runway!

I gave a little throttle and turned her around in the rough! Back onto the runway, and for the first time, taxied back the pit area!!! WOOT!!!

Superb progress!!

Techical problem: I would have flown out one more tank BUT the muffler keeps rotating, despite my torque and locktite on that long screw. My next fix is to make that connection permanent to stop that annoyance.

Also, I have two brand new flight batteries. I will install them semi-permanently, add a switch, and set it up so I can charge them in the plane, and be able to switch from A to B packs. More later...

Status: offline 		Muffler Rotation Problem Fixed

I cut off a bit of old outrunner motor mount such that it makes a twin washer. I marked off holes with it across the two muffler halves, drilled a tapped to 4-40 threads. Screwed it down such it locks the movable half in position with a couple hex screws and lockwashers. It ain't gonna rotate no mo.

Now I just need to figure out an A / B battery switch and charge harness...

Sunday morning weather report looks 80% flyable at the moment. Looking forward to next sortie!

Status: offline 		Glow Plug Failure in Flight Forces Emergency Landing!


Dang, perfect flying weather and I have to come in after just 5 minutes of great fun because the engine cut out in flight!! Dang!!

Fortunately, she was coming into the wind, but the airstrip was way to far off to one side, so I had to land in the rough. Not too bad! Decent flare, but...

Landing Gear bent. Wingtips slightly scuffed. That's all. Could have been worse - she came to a stop just under a barbed wire fence, between the posts, and short of the pit area's shed. Whew...

I tried another glow plug I had handy but it has this bar across the top - probably intended for 4-stroke engines. It did not allow a pass at the following engine test, so I grounded her for the day. I should have had an extra plug or two of the right type in the
