Hi all , I am a noob to RC. I have just finished reading this thread and i could not believe all the bad stuff I was reading about the Raptor. I hav just completed my 9th flight and have been taking off and landing since the 5th flight. This is my first ever RC vehicle and this thing flew so slow and steady my 12 year old could fly it. it balanced out nice I did have to add 2 oz of weight to the nose the engine has performed flawlessy and landing was easy after I got over my nervousness. i would recomend this plane to anyone. It looks good in the air and the red/white trim does help with orientation.

Glad you are having a great experience Stinger!

I would classify your experience with the H9 F-22 as "unusual". It is a heavy, draggy airframe no matter how you slice it.

And, I wouldn't interpret all the previous posts as "bad stuff". They mostly are just cautions, caveats, and suggestions for improved performance and reliability.

Not too many 'raptor haters' around here, and if there are they need to get a life. heh.

I have targeted this Sunday for my next F-22 sortie. Missiles loaded and locked.

I'm all ready for F-22 sortie tomorrow am.

I brushed up on the FSOne simulator for this bird. It seemed too easy so I edited the model.

I increased the weight to 9.5 lbs. dry and reduced the power by 20%. Still running its Evo .40 option with APC 11 x 6 prop. I know it doesn't match reality, but the program has limited options. These seemed to be the closest but the result was a bit too zippy.

Now she is more sluggish and demanding - more like the real thing.

Unfortunately, I can only run the program with a Steady Wind. If I select any Turbulent Wind, the frame rate goes so low its unplayable.

Anyone have this problem with their FSOne?

Ok so I am now begining to get bored with my f-22. dont get me wrong she is fun as hell to fly but i am thinking about putting my os .61 fx on it. the plane is def fast as is with the .55 ax on it but a bit more power would be much more fun. also has anyone considered trying to lighten up the plane at all?

forget the 61 and go with a 75ax or a 91fx.

Flight Report, F-22 Sortie #12

Time: 09:30
Weather: Warm and calm. Variable light wind, mostly from the West (which is a cross-wind for us).
Fuel: Fresh 10% Tower Power
Prop: Balanced APC 10 x 7
Plug: Used HAN3011, tested Good
Flaps: 1.2" down

Takeoff: Never has been a problem here, off paved 100 yard runway.

In-Flight: Engine behaving like an angel. Nice low idle, pure turning up to WOT. Did some loops and rolls. Then, practiced slowing down and flaring at 100' altitude. With the increased Elevator throw I programmed, I could see she was easier to flare and slow down.

Landing: This has been the major challenge for me - but today, WE NAILED IT!!! Perfect flare and touchdown right down the middle, and taxied back to the pit area, then clean engine shutdown. I saluted the two old timers watching me and they cheered! WOOT!!!

After that, I took a break then flew my electric Mini Edge 540. Nice touch-and-go's. Nice inverted flight. BIG FUN and easy, this one!

Sortie #13

Same as above but the crosswind was too much for us. When you apply rudder control to the Raptor, she does weird things - Adverse Coupling its called. We landed in rough - NO DAMAGE!!! Woo hoo!!! The Mini Edge had little problem landing in the crosswind. The rudder performs as you expect.

Sortie #14

Same as above, but the landing was better. A little bouncy, and not very pretty, but she did not scuff her wings or prop. Taxied back to pit area (I LOVE TO BE ABLE TO DO THIS!!!) and clean shutdown.

Took a break and did more Mini Edge work. Great fun!

Sortie #15

As above but the sound of the engine changed suddenly while in-flight!! DANG!! Ok, what to do? Started lining up for an approach - she is sputtering!! Not good!!

Ok, she sounds like she could die any second. Is she out of fuel? I set the timer for 7 min, but this should leave me with almost a half tank when done.

Rather than risk a dead-engine landing somewhere I could not predict, I brought her in - a little hot, but I had little choice. She bounced 3 times then went into the rough. I managed to keep her flat. Carried her to the pit area...

Inspection: NO DAMAGE!!! Great!! Wait, what is this??!?! The muffler is half off again!!! Grrr... Yep, one screw was completely out and dangling there, and the other was way loose. Those screws spun out despite LOCKTITE. And of course the gasket was blown out...

Well it was a pretty freakin successful day! I will address the muffler issue back at the lab. I think I might run long bolts all the way through, then cap with aircraft nuts... ???

Cleanup took AN HOUR. She was covered in thick oil and dirt. Yuck.

GREAT DAY!!! WOOT!!!!

Hey russm, have you tried a 75ax? I was thinking about it, I already have a new 61fx, but was thinking of the 75. Anyway now you're talking about a 13" prop, I think you'd have to fab some new gear or put huge wheels on it.

Sounds like you had a good day markind, atleast she is in one piece. what a pain in the neck these evo engines can be, i put mine on a skyraider low wing and it has a pain in the rear trying to get it dialed in. so instead of installing the .61 on this plane i chose to get a .40 twist. This plane will just remain to be my hot rod and thats it.

Todays flights started off rough, could not for the life of me get my engine to stay running. Last time I was out It was running a bit rough but it was still running. come to find out the head bolts had loosend up just enough to let some air in and keep her from a consistant idle. All fixed now, she ran and flew great all day (until the cross wind kicked up).

Since I have been able to figure out all the bugs on this plane, it might be time to install retracts. Really like the idea of the other poster who did it but I just cant stomache the 300.00 dollar price tag. O'well, If she survives the summer I might consider it for the winter.

turdfergerson have you hought about using spring air retracts they are not as expenxive or maybe even B&D retracts. They are air up and air down and very reliable. Up to you though.

wagz, 12x8 or 11x9 is what i use on my 75ax installed on my sundowner50. a lot stronger engine than the 61fx, witch is what i have on my boring rapter.
