I like the ideas put into it but it does need some different covering and then I have to get past that 3 blade prop. I'm just not sure....the lines of the plane don't flow right.

im thinking of starting to fly, and although the f22 might not be perfect or look like the real f22, compare it to the other trainers out there the p51 and the f22 pts are about the only trainers that arent just an ugly box. Plus once ur done training u can take off all those training things and use it as a regular plane until u get a new one. Its a new and modern plane, and it got my attention because its different than the other trainers.

Please change the title of this thread to

New Hanger 9 f-22 Raptor **Trainer?!?**

to match the other PTS thread

New Hanger 9 p-51 mustang **Trainer?!?**

Seriously though, as a P-51 PTS owner I'm confidant the F-22 PTS will be a stellar performer.

I have seen pictures of it and I think it looks good, the engine might not be my first choice but I have read that guys have taken off the weight on the front of the motor and reproped it and they run good.I guy at our field has a PTS mustang that he did that to and took off the trainer stuff the plane flies great,Soo I feel what the heck I donot need a trainer but the plane looks cool with radio etc allready got the OK from wife soo I guess there will be a new plane in my hanger for the new flying season.

Flies great inverted, even with flaps deployed! Very aerobatic for a trainer!?!
I hope they come out with the ARF version soon!

They list all the parts as Backorder, but if you add up the wings, fuse, stab, rudder, canopy, and landing gear, it comes to $235.

I hope it comes out as an arf. Usually the price of the arf is less than the spare parts. Considering the P51 PTS Arf is only $119.00 and the RTF is $399.99. But since they have to pay Lockheed. Hopefully around $150.00~$170.00 range for an arf version. Looks great in the video though.

Cool looking trainers get more folks excited about getting started in the hobby. The Nexstar and the P-51 PTS are the two most common RTF trainers at the fields I fly at, and they're coincidentally the two most expensive. New pilots will fork over the cash if the trainer comes with everything they want, and bundling the JR Sport SX 600 radio system and FS One Solo with the F-22 PTS make this package a winner.

It's a neat concept, and I certainly hope the biggest trouble that Horizon Hobby and its resellers have with this trainer is finding places to stuff all the cash that this model will hopefully bring in.

Yeah Horizon!!! Very innovative! The F-22 really grooves nicely in the video! I think it looks very well designed judging from the picture gallery on the site. I wish that this plane had been around when I was learning. I trained with a Goldberg Eagle. It had a high wing, flat bottom airfoil and a wonderful amount of adverse yaw. I thought I was a bad pilot until I flew a friend's pattern plane. I recognised immediately on taking the controls of the pattern plane that this is the way that all planes should fly. It would respond to my control inputs in a completely predictable way (the same while inverted too for some ungodly reason I'm sure). Leaning to fly would have been so much easier, I believe, if my first plane hadn't had so many 'aerodynamic quirks.' These quirks are confusing to the beginner and make them feel like they have given the wrong input when the plane doesn't respond as they think it should which can induce panic and then they do something really wrong. My guess is that high-wing trainers with lots of dihedral are a hold-over from the days of free-flight and the one and two channel radio systems era where excess positive stability was a necessity due to the lack of control surfaces available to the pilot.
