My wife just placed an order at the LHS for a ARF version. I have been thinking about ways to add retracts to this bird. Has anybody thought about how to do this?

The wheels will need to swing back and in to get them in the fuse, so I am still not sure how this can be acomplished. This is one of the first things I would like to do to it.

I flew the RTF version, and as a brand spankin new pilot, it flew great. I have been learning on my Sig LT-40, but it was nice to fly this plane as a change of pace. It is a lot more active than my LT-40, but I think that will help teach a pilot to not over correct, which can be done in a high wing trainer without as much feedback.

You'll just have to cut and see what you have to work with first. I think I was the first to install retracts in the PTS and being that it has never been done before you will have have to do it. I used a set of retracts to get the general area where they should go and then marked it out and started cutting. Soon after I was into it I realized there wasn't much to work with and started measuring before i cut too much off. makes me wish I had one of these as well, was a fun project and I got over 100 flights without the gear falling out...

In case you haven't noticed, the RCU Magazine review of the Raptor PTS has gone live:

Has anyone flying this bird tried it with a hotter engine installed? I have a K&B Screamin' 48 that needs a home.

When we had one at the field, everyone commented on how it flew better wit the 2 blade prop, but they all wanted to try it with a bigger engine. i think most were talking about a 55 size engine.

As soon as the ARFs are out, I am sure you will see it with all kinds of engines.

Hello Again Everyone,

After working with my LHS it seems that someone that has nothing purchased with this hobby can get started for about $500.00 with this airplane kit, a field box comb kit and a gallon of fuel. I think the biggest thing to keep in mind is that this radio system and airplane can be added to as the pilots abilities improve. Guidance from a local instructor could help get some new folks into the hobby for that amount and little more for a fair amount of time. That might help our hobby in the long run if we could interest more folks without soaking their wallets right out the door. Anyway, my thoughts

If cost is the biggest factor, I am sure there are cheaper ways to get in the sport.

Heck, a tower trainer is like $70, a 40 engine can be had for about $30, a basic 4 channel radio about $100. Other necessary stuff, but not any luxury items like electric starter, for about $50. So if you go bare bones cheap, I bet you can be in the sky for about $250, all new stuff.

The F-22 is a good deal though.

There are cheaper ways to 'get into' the hobby but they maybe short term. The idea with the PTS F-22 system was you get a completely engineered system, a plane that can me significantly modified plus a radio system that can fly many other planes. I think 500 is resonable if the factors are explained properly.

Yes, there are cheaper ways, but $450 for a plane, a GOOD engine and a 6-channel COMPUTER radio is hard to beat.

It you think that's cheap, check out www.wholesaleplanes.com they have the Raptor PTS for under $400 with free shiping. Now that's a real deal! I've ordered from them many times and really like their service and discounts.

I was deciding between getting the arf raptor or the rtf raptor, and i was wondering which engine was better, the evolution engine that comes in the rtf or the OS .46 ax engine http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFMD5&P=0
