Yes, I could see early on that it would take an extremely powerful engine to lug this beast into 'unlimited vertical'.

I could tell in the first few minutes of running the FSOne sim that this model is signifigantly underpowered. I really like FSOne as its physics programming seems excellent and I expect it is acurately simulating the effects of the weight and drag of the F-22 Raptor PTS airframe.

But, I am still having fun with it, with the stock motor and the 3-bladed prop, on the sim. In the sim, I put in a 10x7 and I enjoyed a significant performance boost. Not enough to write home about but enough to appreciate.

I then put in an artifical power boost of x10. Ok yes, it flies like a rocket and can go straight up forever - and can do a powerdive so fast the wings can be ripped off. heh. Kinda fun...

I am at the point now where I can land the sim model safely 10 out 10 tries, in up to 8 mph wind. Landing is the big trick. And its tricky, too. I don't think a bigger engine with more power helps on the landings. heh.

Alright, alright, I'll look into the Evo .55 and /or .61... twist my arm... What's another c-note for a nice plane like this?

Hey, the Evo .61 looks fine at $120! Will it fit right into the F-22 PTS? Or will it need some surgery to mount in there properly?

Its hard to tell from the diagrams. Anybody using an Ev0 .61NT in their F-22?

HEY markind please forgive me the EVO NX.52. bolts right in only differance height 3.5mm 1\4 inch length .2mm 1\8 inch everything else the same . I have tried the 10x7 like the 10x6 better 14000 rpm not sure if safe with the NX .52 the NT .46 is the same the NT.61 is bigger .sorry talked before I was thinking. I like the way the glow plug tilts back for safety. why I went with the EVO over my OS choice both are good engines A rookie mistake falcongt

Ok great! So, it does appear trying to install the Evo .61 would be hack job. Just a bit too big, I guess.

Ok, then, looks like I will pick up an Evo .52 in next couple days. Yes I like the look and feel of the Evo. APC 10x6 it is, I'll pick up some spares too.

Thanks for the tips! Stay tuned for progress posts!

Parts ordered! I got a good deal from RC Supply for the Evo .52. Only $100 delivered!

I found ST47 servos for $11 bucks each delivered from eBay. Got 6 on the way. Looking forward to the build!

Kewl, got it all on the bench now, motor, servos, everythang.. Looks pretty good other than the usual very minor covering wrinkles...

Very nice stuff in the box. I like the wheels but I may go with Gold-n-Rod instead of these wire linkages...

I am amazed at the fuselage structure. All laser cut ply. Whoa... Nice covering job, nice hatch latches. Stout landing gear. Please don't crash!

Assembly about half done already. The cowling came out nice. Motor and all servos installed. Still need linkages. Those heavy wires provide seem a bit still. I think I pickup some Gold-n-Rods today, and I need a Switch Harness and a NiMh Flight pack.

Question on the Flaps:
The book says I can use two ST47 standard servos, and a "Servo Reversing Harness". What is this thing and can't I just re-pin a connector on a Y-harness and do the same thing?

Servo Reversing Harness is just what it says. don't see why you can't reverse the pins, as long as it will stay together. i've also seen where people switch the wires on the servo, you need some soldering skills though. i just used one of these http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXAFN1

My LHS guy answers this question. I got a Servo Reverser similar to your Tower link but it was only $10 from GWS. Now I can use all 6 of my ST47s, cool.

No, you can't just swap wires around in the connector. The servo pulses must be digitally or logically 'Reversed', and that is what that little wrapped up circuit board (yep, another $1 china special) does.

Probably, it also adds some small delay, but since its just flaps, and just hopping bewteen 2 programmed positions and staying there, it should be fine.

I am really having fun with this kit so far. After visiting a couple LHS, I decided to get on with the build and install fixed flaps for now. It will save the weight of two servos. Probably, I will find two smaller, lighter weight servos to do the flaps.

Tonight, as well as getting the receiver and battery pack in there I am installing Gold-n-Rods in place of the standard control rods. They are really slick - very little friction even around sharp bends. And lighter too.

The only caveat is that you have to cut away some of the UltraCote to get access. So, I got some to repair this and any other incidental damage that might occur down the road...
