This is my first heli!! and I"m loving it! I just got it last night finnaly and practiced alittle bit of RADDS first battery lesson. Man this is HARD! After reading on here about ground effect I'm assuming once I progress up in the air, it becomes a bit easier to control?? Needless to say I ordered the realflight sim today from tower!! There is alot I dont know about heli's been into rc cars but always wanted a heli. Are there any good magazines to get? I checked at the local barnes and nobel most seemed to be bout planes not helis!
any advice welcomed!!

Thanks!

For me I don't use the training gear since it will fly differently with them on plus it effects flight time.
Take it slow and check the servos every so often if it becomes really unstable since there are a few issues with them.
For me after about a foot off the ground it hoovers better.

I Did a search not much turned up. Only one that looked good was one from europe. I"m following radds lessons, but man its hard get my fingers to control the sticks correctly when I'm trying to move both hands.. I'm hoping its easier once its in the air, and responds better, now it kinda just jumps every now and again.. and its definatly easier to control with out the training gear.

The best book, if you can find one. "Ray's Authoritative Helicopter Manual" by Ray Hostetler
I believe it is out of print now but I you ever find one, buy it.

Oh yea, I remember Rays instructional video. As a matter of fact, I bought that DVD. It is pretty good. It takes you into alot of theory that (for me) needs to go back time and time again.
You know, the only downside to these instructional videos is that they are taking you thru the whole setup and flying using a particular brand of Heli and also the Radio. He is using the JR9303 or something like that. Well, i am here to tell ya. Has anyone investigated all the types of Heli Radios there are and the "programming" styles that are out there. Not only that, but the problem is that all the manufactures call the "same" adjustment by different names and terms.
One manufacture may have you set up the exponetial curve on cyclic and name it some strange name and another manu will call the same adjustment by another term. So the DVD is great if that novice has the same equipment. Now an intermediate or an expert can take any radio and make some sense out of it.
What gets confusing to me is when I looked at the DX7 radio. They are again can't keep step with the terms that people are familiar with, they have to go out on a tangent with their control terms and naming conventions. So the point is that there is no "standard" that manufactures are going with becuase they all want theirs to have a uniquie footprint and naming convention (trying to reinvent the wheel).
I still highly suggest to get the DVD if you can. To me, it is best to learn how to really fly that machine good before I go out and invest in a nice Radio. I do not want my lack of understanding of how to program a Radio to stand in the way of me learning how to fly (to many conflicts).

The last thing I want is for that AXE to shoot off in the sky like an uncapped fire hidrant due to some bizarre programming that I done !!!

Ya, there is alot to learn.. ITs like learing nitro cars all over again, but 10x more complicated. I"m excited about it though! I look foreward to the day when I have confident control over simple flight! Any idea where I might pick up one of those instructional dvds?
