Default gp viper jett50lx video

viper with a jett50lx hitting over 22,000 on the ground. Roger you wont have to worry about me bringing my 50 around to beat up on a old guy anymore. Its new residence is in my viper at my bros house in florida. that is where this video was taken.

Yeah that moves out, don't it. Good video and a good example of why if you wanna go fast with a relatively simple airplane that actually flies well, one of these is a better choice than a Magnum! Hey, it's a pylon racer, and I only saw about four left turns - get it together man.

Oh yeah, and I think you ought to let your cameraman fly it to see if he can keep it where he wants it..

Did you do the standard RCU issue mods to the firewall, glued in tank hatch and all that?

Hey Ken,

That thing really moves. I think you need to make a helmet cam with auto focus. That way the camera will be looking where you are and almost always be on the plane. Anyway, pretty cool video. Are you and John going to Prado this weekend?

Dude:

Guess I had better hope Bro keeps that thing in Florida. Looks like he has put a few pounds on? Should I finally put a speed prop on my little "Yelow Jacket? Ah well, hope to have something for you guys this year. Can not get a 60 or 90 OSVRDF into the Q-500, so havilng to build up something which should be ready to go in a month or two. Had better send my 50 back to Dub Jett and have it LX-d. The 60 LX in the cabinet should do in the intrum, it will fit on my old quickie. Would I do that to you guys. he he he he. Just trying to crank you guys up as usual!!! ENJOY

I like it!!

I think I'm getting more and more crazy....

I picked up a nice little engine at the AMA Convention swap meet (new in box Rossi .61 ducted fan engine, RIRE, but turns out it is actually an .81!!)

So now to fit this into a Q500 airframe[>:]

Or a K&B 1.00 ducted fan engine I got used from some guy at the field.... Hmmmm, I'd better start weighing things and buy some fiberglass and carbon cloth.....

Anyone know where to get some carbon props in sizes around 10x10? I want to run around 24K

This should be a fun speed year, (maybe short lived, but it'll be fun)...I'd better go to Rabbit dry lake for flight testing when I'm ready.

roger,

that is my fat a** in the video lol. My bro was the one recording it telling me how to fly.Your right though i do need to stay away from del taco. Hope to see you this year, If we do make a date it proplably wont be until mid summer. The only speed planes i have left are my slow little toni and my f-20, which i am thinking about doing a overhaul on. Im currently working on getting my yellow df f-18 running. I think that might be my new nitch. Maybe even getting into the turbines soon, but the wife might have something to say about that.

First pass I have is at:
13 seconds 141mph
31-----------144
42-----------138
1:01---------151
1:28---------139
1:45---------118 (good example of too far out)
1:55---------173 (last pass and coming down from a dive)
I'd say for a Revver Bro, ya gone Gold.

Platinums at 200 isn't it? What ya waitin for?

Based on Bill's measurements of your speed, I'd say you're using the wrong prop. A quickie is just too draggy to use a Q40 prop. Your spinning up the engine but not hooking up.

just the standard beefing up of the firewall and areas in the fuse that looked weak. It has a little bigger tank but i cant remember what i stuffed in it.

true, the prop is too small...
but it sounds really kewl !!!!!!!!!!!! [&:][&:][&:][&:][8D][8D][8D]

(same effect, more speed... APC 8.5x7.25 or 8.8x9 clipped to 8.2" dia)

When you clip a prop like the ones listed above, how much do you taper or thin the tips? I mean, how far in toward the hub do you sand it thinner to keep from having a "club" shaped blunt tip?

Any pics of modified props for example?

just remember what the warranty says: "If you start this engine without a prop, warranty is void".

I don't do much at all. Just clean up the tips, round the corners a bit with fine sandpaper. Ensure it is balanced.

I will see if I can gather up a few photos.

bob, maybe it was just the sound, but we did try an assortment of different props and that one seemed the fastest to everyone at the field.

what prop do you suggest using. I had been using a 8.75x9 previously. should i just go back to that and clip it down.

dub, this is a great engine you built me. It is over three years old and has hundreds of flights on it.

Dude:

In your dreams!!! Somehow missed this post until now. I need to see you confirm that OS 50 with black pipe will turn 22K. If true, bring it on and will give you a old poops lesson on props and rpm's. Yea, another veiled threat, but just may be able to back it up. Just to be fair, will use something other than a Jett or plrofi to defend the elderly. ENJOY

Hey roger, i have that engine in florida. What i didnt mention to say was that i blew the glow plugs right out of the eninge doing that. You can call dub up and ask him how many 50 size head inserts the pfisters have bought, you would laugh.

Dude:

Yea, the insert in my 50L has also been replaced. Need to get a torque wrench and keep the heads tight, seems to work. What I was questioning if 22K out of a 50 OS, OS, not the Jett. The jett would not be any surprise, a OS 50 turning 22K even with a toothpick would blow me away. The only engine I have run into that will stay close to the Jett 60LX is a Webra 55 on a 10 X 10, that one shocked me cause the Jett is in the new Yellow Jacket version 11, nothing in our area can even come close. Yea, designed and built and being saved just for you guys, just in case you can keep up with the Avi Star. he he he. ENJOY

Sent you a pm a couple of days ago did you get it.

Dude:

See, thats what happens when you get just a little older. Am still a skeptic that that old clapped out 50 will turn a 8.75 X 9 22,000, would hardly pull that Krangke F3d near 100 mph, smoked by a 35 yet. Oh, sorry, it just would not turn? Yes, said hello back on pm. Be well. Rog

Think i'm getting just a little delusional in addition to cranky!!

lol you must be getting old[X(]. I never said it was a 8.75x9. the prop used to get that rpm was a 8.4x7 carbon. Also if i remember correctly when my bro and I flew are f3ds your comment was you guys are crazy and you quietly put yours away.

I would believe 8.75 X 3.5. Ahhhh youth. Still in denial. Dont remember the little 35 powered yellow plane that the F3D could not turn with thus could not stay up with? Night Night
