propjets4me -> .50LX Vs .60LX (1/20/2007 1:55:45 AM)

Hi I might be able to purchase an old whiplash down here, and I have alot of pattern engines..which aren't suited...

could you indicate which would be the prefferential engine, while listing the difference apart from the obvious displacement..lol

I imagine the .60 LX would turn more prop but is this needed on a whiplash

failing that I might build my own version of a diamond dust...

thanks
Frank

Hi,

Thanks for writing. Either the 50LX or 60LX will make the whiplash/dust planes move quite nicely.

Both engines are designed to run appx the same 17,500-19000 rpm range (ground peak rpm)

The 60LX does hold its own a bit more on the top end. Easily turns a 9x9, and we prefer to run the 8.8x9 Q-500 prop on it. With the RE version on a full pipe, one of the best props is the 8.8x9.25 clipped down to about 8.25" diameter.

The 50LX is more at home with the 8.8x8.75, and a clipped 8.8x9 - so it runs great, but you give up about one prop size.

Choice of engine comes down to what you might want to use it for later on :)

Bob
