I recently purchased a Victoria 12 meter style R/C sailboat. I am a R/C flyer with 30+ years of experience. I also sail full scale and own a 27 foot Mirage sailboat. I purchased the Victoria from a friend for $30.00. The hull length is 30 inches. The boat was built and mostly ready to go excepting radio installation. However, it did come with a Futaba sail trim servo. I'm interested in who manufactured this boat, and any particulars I need to be aware of in setting up, sailing and parts availability. Thanks!

If it's this Victoria: http://www.victoriarc.org/ , it's Thunder Tiger in Taiwan

Assuming it is the Victoria, the AMYA (American Model Yachting Association) has a one design class for it. Here's the link: http://www.modelyacht.org/victoria.html

I happen to know there is a fair amount of mods that can be done to this boat to improve it's already fine qualities. You should be able to chase down many of then through the AMYA link.

This boat kit retails at over $100 unassembled with no radio servos. Some friend you are. $30! lol.

anyway I have had 3 of these. They sail well. The biggest problem I had was the plastic stint that joins the mast halves breaks easily. Do yourself a favor and join the mast halves with a piece of alluminum tube that has a tight fit.

Are you saying I'm no friend because I bought the boat for $30.00 and new it costs $99.00? He got the boat given to him for free, I'm happy I got a deal, he's happy he has my $30.00. There's no shame in this for me.

The mast WAS broken at the joint. I drilled out the plastic and replaced it with a short piece of brass tubing epoxied into position.

I was just kidding about the friend bit. Good deals are what friends are for. He will probably end up playing with it anyway. If he's like any of my friends, He'll drink $60 worth of your beer in the process.

Its all good.

Hi everyone,

I'm a RC airplane pilote and I would like to buy a sailing boat, the Victoria looks good the start in this part of the hobby but I have a couple of questions, maybe Tim can have answers for me :-)

My choice is the Thunder Tiger Victoria because I want to have fun in the bulding/assembling process and maybe modify (improve) some feature of the boat. Ok, here we go with my couples of interogation :

Can I add a third servo to control the jib, the main sail and the rudder separetly ? (We have the place to do that ?)

Can I use two sail winch servos to control jib and main (for more realistic as possible) ?

Tim, what do you mean with "mast halves" ? I'm looking in the manual ( http://210.202.20.209/upload/upload_file/Boat/5556Victoria-manual.pdf ) and I don't see any parts named like this

All comments or suggestion will be appreciate,
Thanks
Ben

Hi Ben,

If you want to keep the boat 'class legal', perhaps to race it with other similar boats, then I suggest that you follow the above link to the AMYA class page and look over the class rules.

R13 covers radio equipment and limits the boat to two functions only, for sail (jib/main combined) and for rudder.

So your idea of a third servo for jib control would not be class legal. So really, it depends what you want to do with the boat.

If it is a Victoria it is not 12 meters.
Go to Okanagan Model Sailboat Association they have a lot of information on the Vicky, a building tutorial and links to Longbow accessories for the Vicky.
