Status: offline 		Billie, I have since switched to a 6S 5000Ma single pack, the power is much more consistent. the flight times are right in the 7-8min range if i'm not pushing it too hard, and the packs are barely warm. I will check current draw and let you know, I can't remember what it was right off hand. I haven't done much hovering with it yet, but it goes vertical quite well.

Status: offline 		Well, I finally got mine back in the air with the ASP .91. I was using an MA 14x6, and it flew it ok. still not unlimited verticle (close though), and the speed still wasn't up to what I would like.

anyone suggest a prop other than the 14x6?

Status: offline 		Anyone thought about putting the new DLE 20 CC gasser on this? The folks over at Aeroworks are putting it in their extra of the same size and weight, and their airframe looks only marginally stronger than this one.

think it will make it fall apart?

Status: offline 		Not sure if anyone actually looks at this thread anymore, but last weekend I put an apc 13X9 on the asp .91 (two stroke) and the plane flew great, much much better than the mas 14x6.

there was so little engine noise with this prop (running the same RPM as the mas 14x6) that I could hear the air rushing past the airframe, I had unlimited verticle, and a good speed. In Fact, I could even accelerate going verticle.

Definetly recommend a bigger than spec'ed 2 stroke for this plane.

throw away the included tank (mine leaked all over making a mess)
throw away the included hinges.

Other than that, no asembly issues with mine.

The gear is very strong, I had a hard landing last weekend that bent the metal legs up and back, but did not rip out the block! I just put them on the vise and straighted them out and kept flying.

Its a very fun plane!

What engine and servos are you going to use?

Status: offline 		I'm using the same engine (asp 91), and its plenty fun. Hovers at just over half throttle.

You will probably want to think about using a pump or a cline since the fuel tanks is pretty far behind the engine. I use the perry pump.

And you will definitely want a stronger servo for the rudder, Im using a Power HD 9110 with 145 oz-in and its pretty good. I tried a 3151, and no good, then a 3010, that was even worse. but the 9110 is working very well.

(also, don't use the included horns or clevises, with the 91 two stroke, its very fast and I'ld be worried about flutter)

I even kinda want to get another kit to try a DLE 20 in... I think it coudl be okay if the engine compartment is re-built.

Let us know how the maiden goes!

One more thing, make sure you get some lock washers on the canopy and wing bolts,,,, mine vibrated out without them...

Status: offline 		Thanks for the heads up. For planes of this size, I've used the Hitec 645MG for a rudder servo, and haven't been disappointed. I'm working on another project at the same time, so it might be a while before the red Extra gets taken to Maloof. My buddy just sold me a DLE-30 for use on a Redwing MX2, so that beast moves to the front of the line. Well, as soon as I'm done tinkering and flying the Giles 202 which is taking up the workbench right now. A snowstorm is supposed to bring much colder weather to New Mexico, so our Indian Winter flying season might be coming to an end. Bummer...

I'm going to be using an asp 91 four stroke on my project. any suggestion on a prop? Im going to us the servos that came with my spektrum dx7, not sure the numbers, i will post later. What kind of clevises and horns are you using Flhyr? Are you using the stock elevator dowel rod setup or a bellcrank ass. or something else? How did you decide where to exit the fuselage for the pull pull cables for the rudder?

Status: offline 		I think I'm using the heavy duty dubro clivces with the sliding metal clip, along with the threaded rod control horn on the ailerons, and regular nylon clevices on the elevator. I used a belcranck on the elevator, with the supplied dowel but new rods, I epoxied the heat shrink tubing on and supported the rod with balsa 1/4" squares.

There are little tubes in the back of of the fuse that you need to thread the pull pull cables through, they are hard to see but they are there, just keep looking and I think they are pointed out earlier in this thread.

I'll be interesed to see if a 91 4 stroke will be okay in this plane. I started wth a 75 2 stroke and it was dissappointing, hence the 91 two stroke now.

Status: offline 		Thanks for the information Flhyr. I'm anxious to see how well this engine performs also as it is my first experience with a four stroke. It was the engine recommended by nitroplanes. i'm just getting into sport flying so it should be fine for a while. They say fuel consumption is a whole lot less. Thats always a plus! I'll let you know how it goes as soon as i get it built and the weather breaks.

I have built many planes from Nitro without the manual, but this one has me stumped on the pull-pull rudder cable placement through the fuse. Does anyone have good pictures of how they ran the cables? It would be really helpful. Thanks.

Status: offline 		 Good to see another pilot working on the 330 extra build wirebech. I think it is an awesome looking plane. What kind of engine and prop are you planning to use on your build? Im not sure about the pull pull cables either. Can't seem to find the tubes in the back of the fuselage that webglider was talking about earlier in the thread. Going to try to work on my plane this holiday weekend. If i find  them ill post pictures.

Status: offline 		look inside the plane toward the tail section, you will see two small tubes out each side of the tail section... you can use a small needle to clear the monocoat from the holes on the outside...

its even with the leading edge of the horizontal stab. exactly 2 inches up from it.

you cant miss it....but then again you did.

Status: offline 		I can see something that resembles a white tube on the right side just in front of the back former. Don't see any on left side, may be buried inside the foam. How did you get way back in there? Did you run cables from outside? Haven't had much time to work on her lately, been busy.
