How do you adjust the lower blade tracking on a CX2? Are the blades supposed to arch downward or be perfectly straight?

I took it out in the snow last evening. I was taking pictures of it with one hand while running the controller with the other. Anyway, the police copter completed its mission in whiteout conditions with gail force winds (3mph). In the end it was blown into a bush and i had to replace a single lower rotor blade that got a chip taken out of the trailing edge.

My advise... Put the chipped blade back on. If it's just a small chip on the trailing edge it should be fine. I had a bunch of nicks and chips on my blades and they flew fine until I finally broke one. If you replace them then it's best to do them both at the same time as the blades lose their pitch over time. Also, if your blades arn't tracking it's evident as if you rev up the motors while looking at the blades you will see two distinct paths instead of ther normal one, a.k.a your blades arn't spinning in the same plane. One blade path will look level with the ground (Like normal) but the other will be arched up (Or possibly down, I'm not sure) making it look as if two sets of blades are spinning of that axel at different angles. You'll also be able to tell because your heli will drift terribly, get very little lift, and make a screaming noise with throttle.

EDIT: Ooops! I didn't even answer your question! You can't adjust the tracking on the lowers, if they don't track they've been deformed. My LHS advised placing them in boiling water for 2 minutes, then carefully removing them and laying them flat on a table undisturbed. Once they have cooled they're supposed to have returned to their origianl molded shape and therefore be undeformed and track perfectly. They said doing so may also make the blades tougher. This action has also been observed by someone who recieved a crushed canopy for his CX. After leaving it near a radiator he came back to discover it un-crushed and in perfect shape from the heat.

Going back to the original blade took care of it. Before the tracking was mostly just causing it to vibrate more. The chip on the old blade I reinstalled is two centimeters wide by one deep. Hopefully, the two new unused blades will track correctly when I really need them.

Wow! That's a BIG chip!! Anyway, i'm glad that fixed your problem, and if the other blades don't track you could try the boiling tip. My LHS seems to think its THE thing to do with deformed blades, lol!

Use packing tape to 'fix' smallish chips in the blades.

Works great. I've got lower blades on order from so many places, but only have my original pair, which are now as much tape as plastic, and they still fly great.

Now perhaps the flight charactersitics are degraded from a new blade, but it happened gradually, so I'm not really noticing it. Or perhaps as their quality went down my skill was (marginally) improving...
