I had a really close call with a Coverite iron last night. I had finished a small covering repair and I thought, unplugged the iron. A couple of hours later, the smoke alarm goes off. Apparently I had unplugged the wrong cord, and the iron was still on. Not only that, the iron was in full contact with a formica top desk. I think the temp control took over and tried to get the iron up to the desired temp, and in the process melted the whole works. I now have a reminder on the desk to double check and ALWAYS unplug the iron.

Wow. I HATE when that happens. I guess it's a good reminder to always use your little aluminum stand, too.

If your memory is like mine, my iron is usually plugged into a timer as I have a habit of walking off and leaving it on. Set it for whatever time you think you are going to need, and if you forget, it goes off on it's own. Good Luck, Dave

A question: is the amp capacity of the timer enough?

If a timer works off the mains then its amp capacity should be enough, if not then just buy one that is, If these things can run electric lights and other things then they should be ok with a covering iron.
