The 1st pic isn't a pzrIII it's a pzIV you can tell by the 4 return rollers and the 8 road wheels as well as the back end of the tank the air inlets

Hey does anyone know if this is a good panzer to buy? http://www.raidentech.com/1scaibbrerac.html
I was thinking about getting one for christmas but was not sure if it was good quality and if they made this model to look historicaly accurate! I noticed in the pics above that they have shorter barrels than the panzer that they show on the page that I posted. Just wondering if anyone has any comments about the panzer 3 I was thinking about getting!?

That's not too bad, but it is the standard version no smoker unit and no sound, and no removiable crystal set! So you are limited on what you can do. All plastic no metal but that is where the fun begins you can get upgrade parts from various locations and you can upgrade the whole tank and the Sender unit to the smoke and sound and interchangeable crystals for about 70 to 100 bucks, ask around on this site! Mato use to have the who setup for about 50 bucks but I have not seen that in 6 months. I have bought one tank from Raiden tech ,and it broke, but they replaced it for me, that is before I knew where to get the parts myself! Now if the gun breaks or the board dies it is almost cheaper to fix it yourself and then yo know what you are getting as well!

A good suggestion, buy the smoke and sound model. When you buy the S&S new the difference in price is only 6-8 dollars,to up-grade a non S&S to a S&S will cost you a bunch by the time you factor in the shipping and parts prices.Transmitter, crystals, both boards, speaker, smoker unit and a few other items I have left out that comes with the S&S tank for a few dollars more than the non S&S. Thought I would add here for the new guys,in addition to what I just wrote above there will be a lot of these still on inventory at a lot of the online stores. They want to sell them of course, but these I don't think are even being made anymore.Unless you can buy them for half of what the S&S sell for they are not even good parts tanks. For parts the only thing that is really usable on the non S&S models is the motor gear boxes, all the track gear, turret motor, and gun.All the hull parts are the same. When I got into this hobby my first three tanks were non smoke and sound, had allready ordered them before I found out this was not the way to go.

So the verdict is that S&S tanks are the best than? I guess that I will try to get one of those for christmas. Is this the best and cheapest place to buy it from? http://www.matotoys.com/canada/index.php?cPath=1_30
I was reading on the matotoys site that "The Metal engine comes with all tanks purchased from Mato Toys International. This engine is stronger than

other plastic engines, and will help the tank run more smoothly over different surfaces. It also lets the

tank move at a more realistic speed. This is an added incentive with Mato Toys"

Is this true that it makes it run more realistic than ones without the metal engine?

Also I saw that you can buy the metal tracks for there tanks on the website and was wondering if that would be something worth my money and time to do?
Also is it hard to put these metal tracks on to the tank itself?

Sorry for some many questions but I would like to know as much as I can from people with experince like youselfs before I jump into buying something!
Thanks for your time in reading and replying to my posts!

Hello kilroyturner,
I'll offer my opinion what ever it will be worth, you will get other's.The HL tanks for the money are hard to beat, think a lot of the member's will agree with that. You mention cheapest and the best in the same sentence. There are quit a few varriable's involved here.If you want a standard smoke and sound HL tank with the plastic gearbox(and there is nothing wrong with these)Radintec has good prices and very good shipping rates.I don't have metal tracks on any of my tanks, but do have several tanks with the metal gearboxes.Mato is the only place close to you that I know of that sells the tanks with the metal gearboxes. If you are going to add a lot of weight to your Tank with all the metal track up-grades,the metal gearbox may be the best for you.But just so you know these metal gearboxes usually need to have some amount of tweeking and breaking in before a guy should run them(could save you from burning up a board). Some guys run them straight out of the box,but a lot of the guys work on them first.I will leave this to some of the guys who are running the metal tracks.I will tell you straight out that shipping into the U.S. from mato is not all that cheap.Figure out what you want to buy, start an order from each place you are considering to buy from and check what the total cost is going to be with shipping for you and go from there.Hope this will be of some help-----BIGMIG

I was just wondering if you or someone could tell me why I would need to break in the metal gearboxes before I run the tank.!
Also how would someone that is as new as I am to the hobby "break" the metal gear box in??
How would you work on them?

Thanks for bearing with me, I was just wondering what I should do since I am very new to this.
Also what do you all think about this website here? http://www.tankzone.co.uk/cart/hl_p3.htm

Thanks agian!

If this is your first tank realize and accept this statement up front. These are tanks and just like the real ones they need a lot of work to keep them running and they break. You cannot operate one for every long without tools such as a soldering iron, pliers, screwdrivers, etc.

Buy a whatever tank strikes your fancy from Mato and get it with the metal gearbox, tracks, sprockets, idlers and upgraded battery and BBs. Throw the stock BBs in the little box away. They'll ruin your tank. If it comes with a bottle of CYMK, you're good to go.

Don't run the tank just yet, you have to charge the battery with the wall charger. While that's happening take the tank apart check over all the wiring and pull the gearboxes out.

Make a wiring harness from the motors to your battery directly, hopefully you'll have some spare wire laying around to do this. When the battery is charged, take some gritty hand cleaner or crest toothpaste and pour it all over the gears and hook up the battery. Put a piece of paper over it to minimize spray mess. Periodically add more then switch directions. Finally to break in the motors you can submerge the whole gearbox and motor in your sink with the battery outside and turn it on, this helps break in the motors. Some say you should do this first. I gotta run and this is your best path IMO to get started and see if you like the hobby and will stay with it. If you're going to stick with it, then we need to talk again! Enjoy!
