Are they available in a configuration to fit this engine? What kind of gain can be expected what size prop would be suitable?

Thanks, Mike

Thanks for writing.

I believe Dub has a configuration for this engine available. It includes a bolt-on adapter and the Jett-Stream 120 size muffler.

Would install something like this (ST2300 installation)

The Turbo-Jett is available too.

As for performance gain, on the larger engines you will not see a huge RPM gain as you do with a 40 or 60 size engine. But a small rpm increase with a 16" prop equates to a big increase in HP.

The key here is propping the engine for the rpm required for the muffler to perform best. You want to target appx 11-12,000 rpm with your prop selection. Typically something like a 15x6 will see about a 400-600 rpm increase.

Tell me a bit about your application - sometimes that helps with the selection process

Hello Bob,
I recently bought the engine new and without a muffler, I guess some of them came without from O.S.
I don't have a airframe yet for this engine, but something fairly fast is what I'd want to mount it in. That mustang you have pictured would be ideal. Is that a Kit or ARF? Is it a WM midget mustang?

Thanks, Mike

Might be a cousin of the WM mustang - it is a "60" size ARF that was available on ebay for a while.

As I understand, it is fairly quick as it is setup - but not blazing fast.

However, you are correct - something like this with a 108, a 13x10 prop and a good setup might move along quite nicely.

I just picked up one of those .60 P-51 voodoo mustangs on ebay for $63 + shipping. They are still available! I will mount the 1.08 in it if it does'nt cause a fwd CG problem. I would love to buy a Jett engine for this plane, just can't swing the $$ at the moment

Mike

The Jett 90 or 100L is probably overkill for this bird anyway......

That ST2300 setup shown there seemed to work fairly well. I know of two folks flying the mustang with ST90 power too. With the rebates and discounts from Tower (or the local hobby shop) those are two very cost-effective engines - even if you add on the exhaust system.
