Here's the deal. I'm looking to power my GP Giles with either a Moki 1.80 or an OS 1.60. With either engine I plan to run the same fuel I've been putting through my Webra-powered heli - Red Max 5% nitro fuel with 20% synthetic oil. I've been running this in the heli for quite some time now, with excellent results... smooth running, no overheating, no rust problems, etc.

I've read that the OS engine will probably do fine with this fuel blend, but I'm unsure about the Moki - their instructions give the impression that the mill will start shedding bits if its run on fuel containing no castor.

I've been avoiding fuel with castor oil for two reasons.
A. Our field is quite dusty. Castor residue and dust = a major pain come cleanup time. :)
B. I primarily run YS four strokes. Enough said.

I'd think that the fuel blend I'm using will be OK thanks to the large quantity of oil it contains. What I'd like to know is this - has anyone had experience running big Moki engines on straight-synthetic fuel?

I don't have a Moki, but from the reviews of the engine gurus in the mags and per the manufacturer recommendation I would DEFINITELY use a fuel with castor in it. With the high performance and metallurgy of the Moki it is not a good idea at all to run 100% synthetic.

You say the fuel you use now is ok because it has a lot of lube. That doesn't matter because castor is a different chemical composition with different lubricating qualities than synthetic so it does not matter how much synthetic you use if there is no castor at all in the mix.
