Here's a pics of what their talking about. http://www.hpiracing.com/products/en/85040/ It's a set of all three Front, Rear and Center. All it is, is a shell you still have to get the gears, slipper and whatever else is needed to make it work. Has anyone done this conversion yet? Will the stock spur gear fit in this tranny?

the bolt pattern on that hpi mt2 tranny is different.... its not perfect squared bolt pattern like the tornado...... i think i'll just stick with the regular tornado single speed

Yeah it looks like it'll be a pain in the as$ to do. Just play it safe with the stock set-up and you'll be fine.

HSN is 3 turns out. LSN say's 2 1/2 turns out. But I've found with that, that the engine is hard to start. I turned it in 1/2 turn and she kick right over. So 2 turns out on the LSN. Thats your starting point and you can tune from there.

Right now in Jersey it's been between 20-37 outside. My HSN is set and 2 3/4 turns out and I think my LSN is 1 1/2.

Actually the high speed needle is 2 1/2 turns out and the low speed is flush with the casing

Perhamrocks, I understand they say set the LSN flush but when I do, I can pull the pull start all day long and I get no where. It's only when I turn it in all the way and then back out 1 1/2 turns I'm able to get her to kick over. At which point the LSN is set no wheres near flush which I thought was very odd and wrong but it seems to work great this way.

Just last night I read a post made by the Owner of RedCatRacing I believe where he said that the HSN factory setting is 2 1/2 turns out and the LSH is 1 1/2. I'll try to find it and repost it. But I do follow "stock" setting. MY Hpi T-15 is set that way.

Post was made by HimotoRacing: Engine manufacturers often include base-line settings for the mixture needles, so it’s wise to start with these. If this information is not provided, then you must arrive at needle settings that will get the engine started. A universal starting point is usually about 1 turn open (counterclockwise) on the low-speed needle and somewhere in the 2- to 3-turn range on the high-speed needle. This varies among engines, but it gets you started running, and then you can make the necessary corrections.

First take off the air filter and look into the carb. When you apply the breaks the opening sould be about 1 mm. Turn the screw ccw for faster idle (bigger opening) and cw for slower idle and a smaller opening.

I must be a freaking idiot. I have a redcat lightning and seem to have it out of tune and dont know what the hell I'm doing. I wish I could get it to it's factory setting again. And I really wish I had not started messing with those tuning needles. CRAP.

Setup Problems - Wheels Spin even though idle scree is down all of the way. We also tried to adjust the speed needles.

We are in the process of breaking in the engine. Have run one tank of gas. Now ready to do the figure 8's, but cannot until the engine is running and the wheels are not spinning.

Thanks for your help.

Ok put your needles to factory settings

Hsn- 2.5-3 turns out
Lsn- flush with the collar
And then put your idle to about 1mm gap, take your air filter off and make sure the gap is about 1mm.

Make sure when your braeking in your engine gets to at least 200, but no too hott. You wanna run it rich and give it extra fuel, but not too much.

Your idle should be good at those settings, also pull on the pull cord, if the wheels wanna turn with it then your clutch spring is broke. OR if your car wont stay on unless moving its broken

With the needles set right and the wheels still wanna move turn your LSN needle out 1/8 turn. You'll notice later once your done break in and tunning for performance, that when you turn you LSN in it'll also bring the rpm's up. Which is fine as long as your still getting performance out of it. Once you done adjusting you high and low speed needles, turn out you IDLE set screw till it has a nice easy idle to it. But for now, just turn you LSN out a hair.

While breaking in my sh .18 my buggy kept creaping on me. I turned out my LSN and it calmed it down till I was done break in.

I think "Down" all the way would raise the idle. You want to back the screw out to lower the idle.

Turn your clutch bell by hand there should be no metal-on-metal rubbing feel or anything like. If there is then the clutch spring might be busted causing the clutch to be always engaged. In which case it'll never idle low enough not to spin the wheels. Busted clutch spring happened to me at break in.
