i have a tornado bb and i have been wanting for some time now to upgrade the engine. i was just wondering what engine would provide the most acceleration but would also be a direct fit? Also i was wondering if anyone knew of any good sites to buy hop up parts from. Thanks!

The sh 18 engine is a good upgrade, really good engine. With the redcats engine replacement program you can get it for 45 bucks which is a awesome deal. The os cr-vs (i think thats the one) motor is even better, buty thats like 120 bucks or something. Get the sh, you will be happy with it

Is it really that much of an upgrade though?

Oh ya, you would be suprised. Just because the engine is the same displacement, doesnt mean that it puts out the same power. I would deffinitely reccomend the sh 18

hey guys, i got cameron at redcat to tell me how to tell the glow plugs apart. i now have a new problem, i have a hard time starting the engine, when it does start it wants to scream at sounds like full throttle, wont idle at all, not even close to where the idle needs to be. the tires are screaming fast. i have tried setting the needles back to original factory settings, i took off the carb and cleaned all the internal pieces(fully disassembled), i am running a medium glow plug and 20% nitro. fairly new to the nitro world. i am about to take the shotgun to the dam thing but i still have hope. please help.

i cant try to start it on the ground right now, there are some kids sleeping in the house. i was messin with it earlier today and when it did start it ran for only a few seconds and when it was running it wanted ta run 1000 miles an hour. it did run for more than a couple seconds a couple of times but i had to keep it running with the throttle.

it was running really fast (engine). tirea were screamin too but they should have been. i cant get the idle to come down and stabalize, it just dies. now i have set the gap in the carb to about 1mm, reset the carb to the factory settings and i removes disassembled and cleaned the carb. i have a medium glow plug with one tank of 20% fuel ran through it. my glow igniter is fully charged, i have blew through both fuel lines and they are clear. the only thing i can think of left is the clutch spring but it isn't showing any symptoms of that being the problem

2 1/2 turns out on both. thats what it says to do oin the manual, thats what it was when i got it. only after i changed glow plugs and started messin with the needles did this happen, and the screw for the brake linkage fell out so is got another one. i have checked the throttle linkage to see if it is binding and have found nothing, thanks by the way for helping.

ok i said to hell with the kids and their sleep, my tornado and my piece of mind is more important ha ha. i went and set the needles to where you said and it started and idled pretty well. it was loads better than it was. i also changed glow plugs back to a hot plug but that didn't make any difference. best i can figure is that with the 10% nitro fuel the factory settings and a hot plug is good enough for it to run but the performance sucks! i still havent got it to go into second gear. like i said i am running 20% nitro and a medium glow plug. the factory settings must not be close to what they need to be. i did check my transmitter trims and they are not screwed up. the throttle is not open too much. thanks for all your help. i am going to try it tomorrow after easter celebs.

Use a hot plug with 20%, but if you go higher use a colder plug.

Yes you can, but it takes some modification, but really its not worth it, it will tear up your drivetrain. Just get an sh 18, they are great motors, and have plenty of power. But the big blocks will snap drive shafts and eat your diffs.

alright guys, i got my glow plugs and it will start(not to easy) and run. it ran pretty good for about one tank of fuel. every time i went wot and came out of it it wants to die. i tried the #8 plug first and it would hardly run. i put in an ac3 and it ran pretty well but was having this problem with it dying.i think i just need to tune it more but if anybody has any ideas it would be appreciated. remember it is stock except an air filter. i am running 20% nitro. it is not dying when i hit the brake either. just after it has been wide open throttle once or twice. thanks guys.

Ya 2.5-3 turns out is your base setting, then you tune (lean) from there.
