Ali and I have differences of opinion sometimes, nice guy but I have my own way of looking at things.
I use only SIG 15% nitro 20% oil. It is 50/50 castor to synthethetic and I feel it works great at keeping my engine right.
You may consider heating up the clinder of your engine with a hair dryer before you start it the first time.

Thanks again for the advice... I appreciate all I the advice I can get.... what is the reason for heating it up first ? is that simply because of the nitro fuel ?
What type of glow plug should I have on back up ? I see there are cold medium and hot...

Modern ABC/ABN/ACC engines are bored at a taper in order to maintain the compression when warm. That is why their pistons "pinch" at the top . Preheating helps keep it from causing damage to a really new engine, it goes away slightly when it is broke in.
I use Merlin plugs, I use the 2006 in just about everything.

Thats why I am here. To clarify I use the Merlin 2006 in everything car related, I use 2003 , 2009, 2010 and 2002 in my planes.

Well, got my Volcano fired up and broke in... Had my first accident.. flipped it over the neigbors self standing basketball hoop.... did a roadside repair after a phone call to redcat to figure out how to put the right front dog bone back in.... bent the shock mount back out straight and fired her back up again... drove her for another 3 tanks.... I have a question though..... with the 2 speed trans in this thing it doesn't shift until it is it is well into top speed... is it normal to have to set them from the factory ?

By the way.... This Thing is STUPID FAST !!!!! Hard for this newbie to control    But Oh SO Much FUN!!!!

The shift point is easy to adjust. Just takes a small allen wrench. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BE1nEsknKrA&feature=player_embedded

Out of curiosity.... One other problem that redcat said is "normal" but I don't know.... the plastic body has meltet right at the header and started melting at the muffler... I called redcat and they said the only fix is to cut the body arround where it is burnt.... is this ACUALLY normal? or have i not set something up correctly? I had the body mounted on the lower holes in the rear... they said that is the normal spot to mount the body... Just curious.... or should I investigate a different body for my s30 ?  If i trim off all of the burnt plastic, most of the right side of the body will be missing.....

The muffler on your engine gets hot just like the exhaust on your car, motorcyle, moped , chainsaw, whatever. Running the engine as rich as you can will help but it will still get hot.

I am going to get a new body for it, is there some way to shield it from the heat? Maybe some sort of heat shielding tape or something I can put on the body or exhaust? any thoughts or advice?

fiberglass exhaust tape, usually sold in automotive stores can help, you can put it on the body where the exhaust is.

I found that 2 speed trans is infact NOT working... took it apart tonight.,... the 2 speed clutch is not engaging... I inspected the little bar that comes out to engage second gear and it was stuck... once i was able to free it up it decides to come out all the time now... I ordered a new 2 speed clutch and I will call them tomorrow to discuss warranty for it... I felt it better to just order a 5.00 part and deal with warranty replacement later on.... Also question, have you guys encountered any issues with the throttle servo making a popping noise? Mine is doing this when braking.... I beleive it to be the servo arm but just curious.... I will discuss it with them tomorrow as well..... so far the car has been fun.... and quite a learning experience so far... but I'm loving the challenge.... You guys have a good night.... I will let you know my progress

The popping noise I would suspect to be gears inside the servo skipping. The stock servos are not that great. I have replaced mine with decent quality inexpensive servos. I use Hitec HS322HD with good result.

I am not sure but they are just a really good quality servo at a decent price.

Does anybody know the correct order for the adjustment screw on the 2 speed clutch?  Is it Set screw then ball bearing then spring? or set screw spring then ball ?

It's been a while since I have messed with my Tornado. I also have a Tsunami I bought off a buddy with the same problem.

Transmissions keep stripping. Not sure why, I have been making them tight and feeding paper through to make sure it was not too tight, but I still just stripped a transmission again. Has there been any upgrades to a steel transmission? I would love to go steel single speed and let her rip.

Maybe because I was doing donuts in the grass when the transmission tore up? I wasn't going full throttle, but it shaved it.

debris is hard on spur gears and so is abrupt acceleration. metal gears will just transfer the stress onto something more expensive. metal spur gears are not the way to go. your clutch bell could we warped that has been known on the tornado. dont land with the throttle wide open either. there isnt a slipper clutch in the transmission so be careful for that.

Hey guys! I'm new to the nitro car world. My boss gave me his tornado s30 as a thank you for coming into work on a Sunday. He gave me a bunch of extra parts and goodies.  So after running it a few times, my first question is...does my car have reverse? My radio has settings for it, but I have no clue on how to adjust the settings to make it reverse. I'm assuming it has the original servo, so I'm not sure if the servo has reverse? Any help/ suggestions would be great. Thanks guys
