From what I have read, with PPM you can use most brands interchangeably. Walkera might be an exeption.
With PCM you can only use the same Brand

PCM stands for Pulse Code Modulation, and is a way to code the transmission, so that it is more secure and stable.
Some swear by it, others hate it.

From what I have read a PPM link detoriates slowly(Model behaves oddly, but can mostly be controlled), but a PCM link is either link or Absolutely No link.(Model flies fine, suddenly total loss of control)
With PCM you can have a Built In Fail Safe, you can't do that with PPM.

You can download the WK-1001 manual at http://www.walkera.com
Here is a direct link to the manual(in PDF) http://www.walkera.com/cn/download.jsp?la=en&file=/cn/upload/explain/WK-1001_expe.pdf

As for how it compares to others. I don't have the foggiest idea, the only RC plane controller I have tried are the WK-701, which is a tiny bit shy of being a nice product.....

i see, PCM sounds very risky. So what are the normal recievers like the ones that come with a stock 6ch walkera or blade cp, PCM or PPM.
I had a look at the manual but it didnt really tell me much about what it can do eg 120 swashplate, how many point pitch curve, ccpm or the other one etc

thanks

The WK-1001 seems to be working okay.. it like a JR3810.. have not had any problem with my test unit.. had it for months.. it does work different from the walkera radios.. good it came with a PCM 10CH RX with 11 slots... progamming is similar to the JR.. if I compare it with the Futaba 6EXH its different.. this has more programable features than my Futaba 6EXH. its like having a 9CHP....

Im kind of confused, does it come with 2 different versions, a PCM or a PPM or does it do both? and will it work with the stock fm receiver in the walkera 36?

The radio is capable of using PPM and PCM. I am using this on my 36 and BELT cp.. the uses a PCM RX the was supplied with the TX on the Belt CP i have a PPM RX. this radio can handle both mechanical and eCCPM so any heli will do 120° CCPM.. its kinda good radio although its walkera.. setting the controls is similar to the JR3810

Yup you can adjust the tension.. all you have to do is to open up the back cover and tighten the springs.. there is a screw that you will just rotate to get the tension that you will like.. for the sticks its kinda long.. you can only shorten it at a specific limit.. if you are used with other radio with short sticks.. the 1001 is kinda longer.. similar to the stock walkera...
