I have a 11.1v 2200mah battery, played with my shiny new 22e (strapped to my pc so it would not go anywhere). waiting to see how long the battery went on for before cutting out...... 25 mins later i turned it off. the battery was hot and one of the 3 cells was slightly swollen. I let it cool right down and pluged it into my Accu-Cycle elite to charge it up for tomorrow. BEEP BEEP voltage too low it said 7.2Volts. I know these batteries are not supposed to go below 9Volts. So I thought I would try a lower voltage "top up" to get it above 9Volts but that is not working I seem to have options but they dont top up to 9 volts . So can anyone advise me what I can do to bring this battery back to life and how I can monitor the battery to know when it is at 9Volts so I dont do this again.

You're lucky you didn't blow the battery. The pack is now garbage. If you try to charge it, it could get really ugly (as in, burning hot ugly).

Did your lithium battery not come with any instructions on proper use? You should NEVER run a lithium pack down fully. The cells should never go below 3.0 volts. So for a 3 cell pack, you should NOT be below 9 volts. Doing so causes irreversible cell damage and causes cell swelling (as you can see), which, had you kept going, would have resulted in the pack igniting.

You can't save that pack, you need to buy a new one, and be more careful with the second pack. Buy a low voltage cutoff to put inline between the battery and motor if you must to save your packs, or pay close attention and time your flights in the future.

Thankl you for your help, I have looked at the low voltage cutoff on the link, but it does not seem to deal with my heli unless I have a brushless motor and esc. any ideas? Paying close attention is not going to work as I really dont know what to do, run it for 5 mins and see the voltage put it back in, run for another 5mins? so the voltage cut off seems to be the option for me.

zulugogogo...When the heli has A hard time staying in the air or you notice the blade speed diminish land the heli immediately. It will be very evident that it time to land. Typically with a 2200mah you should stop flying after about 15min with a stock motor and with a brushless setup maybe 10min.
