What is the best synthetic material for making motor mounts in a profile style fuse??
nylon? specific type of plastic? worried about the effect of heat etc..

Also if you could list where you got it, that would be appreciated.
thanks guys,
ian

I have seen a couple of coro profiles that just glued two pieces of PVC (gutter pipe) to each side & screwed the motor on. Held like a vice & didn't crack.

I've also seen one that used HDPD (Walmart plastic cutting board). That worked out great for him but it's about 3/8" thick & added a lot of extra weight.

Oh yeah. The coro guy put bamboo scewers down the coro flutes to prevent crushing it.

The cutting board is awesome...so much so, that I doubt I will ever buy another comercial engine mount for any airplane of any style or size. Just make sure it says POLY on the lable.

The wally mart cutting boards also come in RED and BLUE. I second what Tattoo said, I may never use a standard glass filled mount again. If weight is an issue, you can swiss cheese the hdpe mount with very little loss in integrity.

To make my HDPE mounts, I now create a schematic (in TurboCad) of where to drill the mounting holes for both engine and fuse mount, cutout for the engine and all holes needed to mount the servo and holes where the zip ties for the fuel tank go. I 3m77 the schematic to the HDPE, then cut with a band saw. So it takes me less than 5 minutes to precut and drill a mount now...

Thanks for all the great responses.

Looks like the cutting board is the way to go. We don't have a wall mart in New York but I have seen those boards about. I'll try finding the 'poly' board.
Wow - the era of totally wood free models is here !!! long live durability.
