Status: offline 		I am looking into getting an rs4, but in someones ebay store it says that i just need electronics. Are they just referring to a transmitter? I have a nice JR racing one that i got w/ my xxx-s. Do i need to buy a steering servo and an esc? Thanks!

Status: offline 		What it the auction link? If it says you just need elct's then all the car needs is 2 servos transmitter/receiver batterys etc.. Bassicly everthing you get when you buy a new Transmitter

Status: offline 		Nitros dont use an ESC just to let you know. As they said above, youll need a radio gear (transmitter/reciever) and 2 servos. Ill take in mind that you already have standard building equipment like screwdrivers, threadlock, glue , etc. since its a kit

Status: offline 		yeah it should be able to make the $400 budget if you look around and get good deals. Its best you buy the 18ss kit in your local hobby store. It will be alot cheaper since it doesnt need to be shipped.

As for the servos, you need one for the engine throttle control and one for steering control. Any standard servo will do for the throttle servo, you can also use standard servos for the steering but its best you get a high torque/speed one as they let ur car handle and turn better

Status: offline 		Being your trying to keep your budget to $400. You said you have a Jr radio so stick with that its a good radio. Any hitec, jr or futaba servo should be fine. Just stick with standard servos untill you driving skill improves. you can swop the servo out of your xxx-s to help keep $ down. Cant forget this!! and a Battery Pack + switch.

Nitro Fuel. 20-25%. Being its a new kit i would go with Hpi's power fuel. (others may object) It has a higher level of oil so its better for break in.
I would strongly recomend a kit like this one. This way you have all the tid bits that you WILL need and could use on other nitros (if in the future) You can get this type of kit at hobby shops to

Tire glue. ( i think Zap CA glue works really good )
Lexan paint (body/shell)

So to revew:

2 Servos (unless you have another one to use)
Transmitter/Receiver
Battery box/ Switch
Nitro fuel/Nitro kit
Glue for tires
Paint for body
(something we all need) Good weather for break-in and driving

Status: offline 		I think what i will do is take the servo out of my xxx-s like you suggested. So that means i only need one now. If i buy one that is better than the one in my xxx-s, does it matter which controls steering and throttle? Im just assuming that is why you need 2, for steering and for the throttle. I have my rustler that i could possibly take the steering servo out of, do you think that it would be sufficient? I will probably just end up going to a hobbyshop (finally a hobbytown usa close to me! yay!) to buy 2 servos anyway. What is a batterybox? And is the nitro "kit" the thing that you posted a link for? Thank you soo much for all your help so far!

Status: offline 		well it seems i contradicted myself. I said i would take the servo out of my xxx-s and i would also go to a hobbyshop. My mind changed as i was typing, so i will probably go to the hobbyshop as opposed to taking servos from existing cars.

Status: offline 		Thats ok to. most servos sell for 25-35 give or take. a stock rustler servo would be fine.
What i always do is check the hobby (my hobbytown) store then check online.
Im thinking about getting a savage so ill prolly check online. i dont mind buying used because i can rebuild if needed. I'll be pissed if i have to but thats what can happen. maybe an lst2...

Status: offline 		is the rs4 evo 3 a kit? Thats one of my bigger requests. I really want to build it myself, i could care less if it only goes 40 mph, i still think my rustler is somewhat fast.

Status: offline 		get the 18ss because it is a kit, i liked building mine, also the evo is a rtr which can have their fair share of problems, ally ou need with the 18ss is 4 AA's, 2 servos, and a transmitter and receiver
