The12 gram ones give around 40 shots, so your 50 on the 16 sounds right.

ArmChairGeneral,
I like your movie. That's pretty cool. I think your on to something. I could place a similiar unit in the turret of my Tiger.
Lately, I've been 'plinking' various older models I had. Actually got a copper tipped pellet to go through the side armor of a diecast Sherman. Don't worry, it was a cheapo.
An in-cockpit view of the action would be awesome.

I just received my parts from Palmer. They look awesome and came in three days. On the adapter for the 16 g cartridges there is an option in the pulldown list to get one without the check valve. So I got that one. Not sure if I should put it in the Tiger or the T34

Yeah, now that you mention it, I realize my mistake in ordering the adapter with the "backcheck" as they call it. Oh well, lesson learned. I ordered the clippard parts on Saturday, so I hope they'll be here this week and I can get going on this gun.

Here is the completed test gun in working form. I have the regulator set at ~100psi. Initially had leaky connections and the cylinder leaked down pretty quickly. I'll have to fix that. As expected it is a monster.
I'm pretty happy with the tanks and regulator. Good source of air pressure that is relatively light and small.
I'll have to modify the loading scheme. the verticle magazine will shhot all the bb's out in a rapid fire manner. I'll have to devise a breech or loader.

Nice work! I don't have my firing valve yet, so I can't test mine yet. I got a few questions though...

What servo are you using to actuate the valve, and does it work fast enough when you hit the switch?

What switch are you using on your transmitter to fire the gun?

Is your accumulator copper or PVC?

When I was brainstorming my setup, I thought about how to keep all the bb's from rolling out of the barrel and/or rapid firing. The trick is to get one bb in the tube and hold it there until you fire it, AND keep all the other bb's from pushing it out...

A vertical tube will solve the problem of always having a bb ready to fire, gravity is the feed mechanism. But, it will also allow the bb's in the upper portion of the tube to push the bb in the barrel out of the way. And as soon as you fire, the next bb drops in the barrel and with no way to stop it, it will just roll right out. Another drawback to the vertical feed would be a giant tube sticking straight up out of the turret, or a very limited amount of ammo if the tube stays within the turret.

I make no claims that my method will work, but here is what I've come up with... I will be using a length of 3/16 ID poly tubing to allow the bb's to feed into the SIDE of the "breech block" on a slight downward angle. The barrel has a hole drilled in it just like yours does, to allow the bb to enter the barrel. On the other side of the breech block is another hole with a magnet inserted into it. The barrel is drilled on this side as well to let just the very tip of the magnet to attract and hold the bb in place, but not so far in as to obstruct the bb's fit inside the barrel.

I did test this method in my shop. I used an old bb rifle barrel, drilled both sides, put the magnet in one side and inserted a bb. The magnet held the bb in place even though the barrel was held vertically. And with a quick blast of air (75psi) from my compressor, the bb shot out the barrel and proceeded to ricochet around my shop for a few seconds.

Theoretically, it should work. The magnet is not strong enough to magnetize the whole barrel, (mine is steel), and if you are using aluminum, no worries at all.

Let's see, I'll try to hit them all. Mostly they pertain to the Tiger.

I use a standard mini servo. Hobbico I think. I'm kinda looking for the right control for it but right now I use the left stick. Move to the left and the servo hits a microswitch to activate the loader. Move it to the right and it fires the valve. There's pretty good pic's of it at the start of the thread. I move to the right as fast as I can and the servo tracks pretty well. The greater the pressure in the accum the more force needed. My servo starts clicking at around 100 psi. I got lazy so I epoxied it to the base of the turret.

ACCUMULATOR MUST BE COPPER! Don't use PVC. I got the parts pretty cheap at lowes. They sell 12" lengths of copper pipe and end caps. Bought a propane torch pretty cheap and learned how to solder. It's all at the top of the thread.

Tried the verticle tube thing with a strong rare earth element to lock the bb's. Didn't work. All the bb's shot out like a machine gun. The accum didn't have a chance to charge so the power was weak.

I'm convinced that some sort of sliding breach is necessary like in my Tiger. It's the only way to individually load a single bb. I envision a sliding tube assembly about 3 inches long. Tight tolerances. half holes filed in them and a servo converted to rotary motion that cycles it and fires the valve.

How about instead of a servo, a pulling 5-12volt selnoid that would(when cycled) push one round in from the side of the breech. Velocity would really pick up!!! the selnoid armature would have no choice but to seal the hole meaning a hellova pick up in velocity. check out the drawing, you could use a horizontal magazine to allow for even more rounds. Hook the selnoid up to another channel for safety. Talk about cocked locked and ready to rock. what does a selnoid turn into when its juiced up.... a magnet!! ie the perfect place holder for the pellet

check out my most excellent paint presentation lol

Just exactly what is a pulling 5-12 volt solenoid? I mean, I know what a solenoid is, but for this type of application, what kind of thing are we talking about?

here check out this link

they are a bit pricey but I have spotted some on ebay pretty cheap.

I'd like to use a solenoid to fire my valves and or loading but could not find one that fit's the spec. Problem mostly being is throw. When activated the solenoide moves between 10 mil to 40 mil depending on type. The ones from the sisht you mentioned don't quite make it I believe. I checked for one with a .4" throw and it was huge and draws 80 watts.
Maybe there's a better one on there but I couldn't find it.
