So because of this post where nitro staff said that the super low wing trainer was a semi airfoil, my darling bride ordered for me for xmas, guess what, instead of a 71 inch semi,its a 69.5 flat bottom Explorer 60 L
Nitro staff, can i return this plane or can you exchange it for what i wanted?

If you go to the NP web site and look at the specs on this plane it clearly says "flat bottom" airfoil. A fact that the company rep is apparently unaware of. The specs also say it is a 71 in wing or 1800 mm which converts to 70.87 in. if the wing has dihedral it can easilly be that you are measuring the wing from tip to tip (as I would too) and they are measuring each panel and multiplying by two. Below are the specs as copied from the NP web site.

Status: offline 		#1 Stang, you are right, all the times I have looked at that page, I never noticed the "flat bottom" note, I really need to get my eyes checked, I did however measure the wing panels on the top side they are 34 1/2 inches exact, each. thaks again for pointing out my short sightedness.

Status: offline 		I just received this model also ... something to bang around while building "real" models. The wingspan is less than advertised, and is indeed flat-bottomed. Bizarre that NP's own rep answered the question incorrectly.
The "Explorer" comes with no fuel-proofing in the engine compartment (raw exposed plywood) - I primed and painted with Lusterkote. The joint where the wing leading edge meets the fuselage also has exposed plywood. I fabricated a balsa fairing and glued it to the wing bottom to close this gap (see photo). Covering match is Monokote Sapphire Blue.
I also reinforced the wing joint with 9 oz. fiberglass, and replaced the under-sized steel wingbolts with 1/4-20 nylon and new blind nuts.
When I e-mailed NP about the correct iron temp to get rid of the hundred or so bubbles in the covering film, I was told "this problem had never appeared before" so they didn't know.
Hoo boy!

Yeah this is quite common. The measurements are crudely rounded.

I've had one or two wings turn out to be slightly bigger than stated, and a few slightly smaller.

I'm not going to worry about that .13" difference though.

Maybe it's a "semi flat bottom airfoil" ?

The edges of the wing in the picture have enough shadow, that it seems that the edges are off the surface by a bit.

In lieu of more accurate descriptions I wish there were more detailed photos on the web site.
