I have everything in place, waiting for confirmation of the retracts. Cox Models tells me that Robart should be shipping them to Cox within the week and they would be going out to those on the list. I will be giving the dimensions also to Darryl at Sierra Precision who I have talked to as well. Darryl I believe has a larger T-28 kit in the works (a kit, not an ARF) so he is really familiar with T-28 gear. He also does a great job of making functional scale looking gear at a competitive price. So there may be some other options out there in the future as far as the gear go.
I will be using a Saito 1.50 four stroke for power. I believe that will be enough power while allowing me to run a three blad prop and avoiding ground clearance issues. Hopefully I can start on it within the week. I plan on traveling to Perry Ga this weekend for the Expo, so I probably will not get anything done till after...

What's the diameter on the cowl? I'm wondering if this woul be a good home for my Saito 170 radial.

Dan,
When I get it out and put it on the bench, I promise to take a pic with a ruler in there so you can see the dimensions. The cowl narrows down on the front and that may present a little problem, but I will do my best to get the information you need. Let me get it to the bench and start putting it together and we will see if I can answer some of the questions.

Hi Tommy.
Again, thanks for sharing your T-28 experience with us. In this Cox kit, is the rudder set up on pull-pull? I saw the three guide tubes going aft, and did not see any indication of aft-mounted elevator servos.
Thanks, again.

Thanks Tommy, but no need to hurry, I like to think ahead. The 170 is currently on the nose of a Stearman that I'll hopefully get to fly this weekend. As is the sad truth of all models, one day the Stearman will die and hopefully not take the engine with it. An engine like that needs to be in the right plane, and this T-28 looks pretty good.

Well here is some information I got last night off the front of the box (could not find the engine recs in the manual, dyslexia creeping up again... )
Engine reccomendations 1.5 - 2.2 (two-four stroke)
23-26 cc gas
6 channels (flaps, retracts optional)
I'll get started on this thing the first of the week, with hopes that the gear is soon to follow.

The rudder is a single metal push rod inside a plastic sheath. There are two push rods, one @ per elevator. The elevators are joined also by a metal U shaped joiner . The only pull-pull system is for the nose steering. This aircraft flies very well with the single push rod for the rudder. Remember no tail wheel steering.

Ordered mine today, should be here in Florida by next week. When I ordered the plane they said the gear with air kit was $490.00 plus $8.00 shipping but has not been released yet (I rounded up all the prices beacause I did not remember the exact fiqure) . I am still trying to fiqure out what motor I am going with, Saito 1.80 or small gas. I will post some pictures once I get the plane. Take it easy.

Curious-"The elevators are joined also by a metal U shaped joiner" and also "There are two push rods, one @ per elevator"
I must be missing something here. Is the manual available on line? And thank you very much for answering-will you be able to post as you get into assembly? Which engine are you contemplating?

Hookum, I am doing a report for a magazine so my photos will go there. I believe you can dwn ld there manual on there web site. The elevators are joined with a metal joiner wire between the two halves, as many sixty size models were done. Instead of just one pushrod, Pica opted to have one for each elevator half that is joined into one just before the elevator servo. This allowed them to use lighter 2-56 push rods but still give the safty and sequrity of two push rods. If one rod would fail the elevators are still joined together by the joiner wire. This aircraft will fly with numerous engines. I flew my older ones with Super Tiger 2500s. I would rather use gas so I am installing a 26cc gasser.

Has anybody tried to Saito FA-170R3 Radial? I know there has been talk about it possibly fitting. I would like to use that motor but I would like to make sure before spending the money on it. I am also leaning towards the Saito 1.80, but love the sound of the radial. Thanks in advance.

UPDATE:
I got the retracts in here on Tuesday. I got a call yesterday from Cox saying that the retracts were not fitting properly and they would have to be sent back to Robart. Apparently the main struts are 1/2 inch too short. Before I sent them back, I also checked the nose unit, it is 1/4 inch too short, so all three units will have to be augmented. Obvioulsy this will slow me up a bit, but I have started elsewhere in the airframe and will be posting some more updates soon. If you have recieved your gear be sure and check the nose unit as well, mine is like I said 1/4 inch too short when mounted in the predrilled location, the offset will not clear the wheel pocket.
BTW the retracts package was complete and even includes a set of Robart scale tires with it as well as the deluxe air kit with the air gauge.
