I saw one at the LHS, looks good although not for me. I think the T-28 is right up there with the Skyraider for the ugliest airplane award

I think the T-28 in those colors looks kinda cool. Certainly very visual in the air. I had one years ago which I built from the kit and absotutely loved it. I ordered one and have high hopes for it. Need to find a set of gear now...LOL. Shipping on the kit was pretty expensive, so it must be a very large box or else I am gonna need a 350 V-8 to pull that puppy in to the air.
Will let you know when I get it, hopefully it will be soon.

Doc: Be sure to Post Lots of Pix Coming out of the box.
Robart has a set of retracts of the Large Byron kit, Off the scale expensive. But I am sure for mains, Just a good set of Robart with Struts would be fine. and

The scale Nose Gear is available from Dave Platt,
Dennis

By the way, This would Likely turn a Scale Propeller!!!! although not true scale.

Robart has a set of gear which supposedly will be available in 3-4 weeks, or so they tell me. I am also going to contact Darryl at Sierra Precision, I love his gear, and see what he might be able to offer. The mains are not a problem on the onld Pica kit, it is the nose. It needs to retract a little differently than most nose gear becasue of the short distance from the gear mount to the firewall and the LE of the wing. Not a lot of room there on the old Pica kit. The gear used to be available from Tower and there are some floating around I am sure. Getting gear will not be a problem, getting them at a good price might be different.
Defintely will take pics as I uncrate the thing, I am hot to see it myself.

Got it today, had it delivered to work to save a little money. She is gorgeous. My initial impression is that it is a very solidly built aircraft, and the covering/finish is superb. I have looked breifly thru the manual and it looks like the typical assembly. I saw a couple of things that I will change, but those look like personal preferences. I am still not sure which pwerplant to use, and to be honest I have not seen one recommended on the box nor in the manual. I am thinking about gas (G-26) but a 1.20-1.50 four stroke should also do well in it. It does not use the old Pica engine mount which was built into the firewall and the manual shows the engine turned about 220 degrees so the head exits the cowl around the 7 o'clock position, It also comes with a transparent cowl to allow you to see your positions before you cut up the gorgeously painted and detailed cowling. The tail feathers and wings feel solidly built, Everything looks hinged, but not glued. I have not taken them out of the plastic yet, so bear with me. It is well packed, in a very large box and nothing was broken, although the outside shipping box did have a small rip in it, the interior box was pristine. The coloring is great, and the covering and painted parts match extremely well. It is a first class job, and one would be hard pressed to replicate it (the average modeler).
Will try and get some pics tonite when I get it home (after 24 goes off...{ })

I don't know. I will try and remember to get some measurements for you. I did notice that the cowling attaches to the firewall via some screws which are accessed thru the front of the cowl, so everything is hidden. nice touch. The fiberglass work on the cowl is very good, nice and thick, no pinholes and the paint is very good.

I can't believe Cox beat Great Planes/Top Flite to the T-28 ARF. (I told them to come out with one! ) Such a cool airplane and it flies great...ideally suited to model form. I had the 1/6 Pica T-28 years ago and it flew like a low wing cub. Very stable and solid. VERY easy to land! I will have to sneak yet another airplane into the shop but that might be difficult given it's huge size and bright orange and white color scheme!!! I think she'll notice it.

Doc: Thanks for the Pix.... Great Possibilites. I love the sign's.
You might get a 3 cylinder Saito in the Nose.
I also stuffed the box with wishes of a Trojan, they sold the old Bridi T-28 years ago.
Which I Have

Yeah, that is the basement kitchen off my workshop. A place for the guys to hang out and play cards.
The T-28 certainly has possibilities and I think it is going to be a hit at the field. You could probably stick a three cylinder in there, if I had one I would try. I am probably going to try and fit a G-26 in the nose, since I have a couple of those, but a 1.80 might be better. I have that in my H9 P-51 and the P-47 and the performance is really good. I do think the T-28 will need the weight in the nose, given the long tail movement and the short nose.
If I can get the retracts soon that would be great. I am told it will be another 3-4 weeks from Robart.....grrrr.
