This may be the wrong forum for this question, but I got to start somewhere!I am building a couple of Zagi Razors and was wondering if anyone has tried Ultracote for covering instead of colored tape?I see these things all over the magazines in a variety of colors and just can't believe they are all covered with tape.Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,Mike.

I used Ultracote. I hadn't planned it that way but did not like the tape finish on the ones I saw. My Zagi is Yellow with Blue stripe on top and Blue with Yellow stripe on bottom. I used the least heat that would stick the covering on. I started around the center of the panels and ironed and lightly pulled the covering toward the edges as I went. I went over each panel several times increasing the heat slightly each time untill the covering was tight and stuck well. I pressed harder where there was tape under the covering. I had already sprayed the contact glue on the cores as called for in the plans. This did not seem to help or hinder. I did a practice piece using the extra foam blocks in the kit box. I was glad and suprised at how much heat the foam did/could take. Mine has been hanging on the wall in the computer room since last summer. The covering is still tight. The "bumps" from the foam can be seen under the covering if you look real close. I did go over the entire leading and trailing edge with the strapping tape. I also added the tube spar on the bottom, flush.

Keep it light, and it will fly better. Straight Ultracote can work, but it requires a little too much heat to activate its adhesive. Ultracote Plus is just a little too heavy for my liking.

Mine is covered with white Econokote top-and-bottom. Some simple detail was added to the bottom wingtips with red spraypaint... just a light misting. Red Zagi tape was used to attach the canopy. This combination flies wonderfully, and is actually lighter than my old tape-covered Zagi-EPP!

... showing the bottom detail. Very visible in flight!

I forgot to mention the winglets. The stock ones are sown in the photos - thin plastic. I misted these with the same paint I used o the bottom of the wing and attached them with heavy-duty velcro. I've also cut them down a bit (height), as they tended to flutter when the speed got too high.
