My 601bc keeps beeping at me to say the my battery is fully charged - the voltage goes up to over 10v but the mah is only abour 300. The car runs badly for about 30 seconds and then dies! I am using standard 6xC-cell nicads and also nimh (3900mah). I am a novice and the manual is rubbish - can anyone help me understand how to just fully charge a battery!!

For example, SJ Propo is a South Korean charger manufacturer and not only do they make their own, they also make the Multiplex LN-5014N and the X-Peak3 chargers.

You have more or less answered what i have also found so no need to publish. Add Hyperion and Pro peak chargers to the list as I believe these come from this source also.

It's a shame that patent rules don't seem to apply in certain countries and copying is so easy to do.
Even protecting your firmware/software must be a problem these days as nothing seems that un-hackable.

Try increasing the mv cut off point in the setup menu (say 12-15mv for Nicad). Reduce to charge rate to around 0.5C and see how the charge goes. False peaks can be a problem on older batteries and some high end chargers have certain charge programs to cater for this. The 601 does not.
Also try a new set of batteries if possible and see what happens with default settings before returning the charger as faulty.

The INC button doesn't work when browsing through the "Program Select" menu. You need to use "Batt Type" and "Dec" to browse up and down. As soon as you select a program type, you can use the "Dec" and "Inc" buttons to scroll through the consequent menu as you would expect. The manual is so sh*t I don't know if this is a bug or a feature! Saved me pushing the "Inc" button through the circuit board though! Clearly this charger went swiftly from design to production with little emphasis on testing!

The copies are not even good ones because there are so many issues. None of which exist in the Bantam line nor the SJ Propo line.

Well I have been using the heck out of my 601BC and have no complaints. This 'copy' is holding up very well.

Well, my 601AD do not discharge up to max 2A, can only max at 0.9A.
the pc monitoring software did not work even the software were installed properly and hardware can detect well.
i ask the seller to check the rest of his stock, if any can work, i would like to exchange, he come back and said i can get full refund.
obviously his stock all not work properly.

On my charger the max discharge for Lipos is 1A. For Ni cads it is 1.5A. Have you felt how hot the unit gets when discharging? I think the reason for the reduced discharge rates is to keep the unit from overheating. I haven't tried PB or NiMH battery types yet.

As far as the pc monitoring software I had no problems. It works great. The way I installed it was:

1) Installed software on laptop.
2) pluged charger into laptop (charger power was off)
3) Laptop saw new hardware. Installed drivers in folder from step #1
4) Started monitoring software then plugged in charger and started charging battery. Software worked as advertised.

I am not too concerned about the less than advertised discharge rate. I spend most of my time charging.

agree that the charging function was performing ok,
yup, discharge was hot, may be it limit it on purpose,
the pc monitoring part definately was defective.

overall i got no confident because i used it to charge LI ion battery which is fregile, may explode if goes wrong.

I have charged and cycled several Lipos with no problems. The charger is working great for me. I just hope it lasts. I am charging my lead acid field box battery right now. I tried it at 5A for a while and it worked fine. I then bumped it down to 3A (I'm in no hurry to charge it). I really like the fact that you can change the charge rate while you are charging.

HA HA!!!

Well this thing just blew!
I had just finished my last post and went to check on the charger.

As I was looking at it, the negative clip to my lead acid fell off. The charger started beeping saying lost connection. I re-connected the negative lead and started the charge again. Very quickly I heard a 'pop' sound followed by smoke from the charger. I thought YGTBSM!

I pulled the charger apart and sure enough there is a small IC that is toast. I am hoping that I just lost the Pb charging function but we will see. I am going to test it here soon and report back.

Well so far all functions of the charger are still working. I looked up the IC that blew and found that is was a MIC4422 9A-Peak Low-side MOSFET Driver. It is on the bottom of the circut board close to the middle of the board. It appears to still be working even though it is burnt. I am keeping a real close eye on this thing now. I am thinking about ordering a new IC and replacing the old one.

I travel to Hong Kong all the time for work. I have purchased many r/c electronic things there. Most of them have failed quickly. I think I am done with Chinese made electronics. I think it is time to order the Bantam.

He is an explanation as to why the discharge currents are less than advertised. Check out the below link.
The 601 discharge rates are not the same as the Bantam however as its a close copy you'll get the idea.
Scroll down to the MAX POWER CIRCUIT CHART and you will see that as the battery voltage rises the discharge current falls.

Update:

Well I have used the charger to cycle a few nicads . I also charged my lead acid
