Kmot,

Home insurance, Yes. But the engines and R/C stuff? No.

What I found - Effective January 1, 1995, UL Standard 498 requires that push-wire receptacles accept only 14 AWG solid copper conductors in their push-wire terminations.

I believe these outlets are legal according to the NEC electrical code as they are still being advertised.
http://electrical.hardwarestore.com/14-53-double-outlets.aspx

I guess my point is that the contractors were probably legal when Bill's house was wired. NEC changes their code every 3 years. I find it appalling that you can be crucified today for what in the past was legal.

I thought they knocked out the holes meant for conduit and simply stick the wire through with nothing to prevent sparks from getting out of the box. I some how thought of this when reading and thought he may be talking about the box. The fact that they limited those rated for homes to 14 gauge doesn't seem germaine to the discussion, unless the hole in the back is for larger wire.

I think there are over 300 thousand airplane members alone on RCU. Someone who is close to Bill needs to establish some sort of fund. If only 10 percent of the membership helps it will make a huge difference. As you are all probably aware, insurance doesn't begin to cover one's losses.

We are a brotherhood and one of our brothers could use some help. Someone set up the fund and the rest of us pitch in and help.

I know it will not replace a lifetime of memories and keepsakes, but it will help him overcome the financial hardship imposed by this catastrophe.

WE CAN DO THIS!!!!!

Hugh, we are talking about installing the wires in the holes at the upper and lower left of this switch or a recepticle for example. I do quite a bit of wiring and re-wiring and never use anything but the screws. In 1974 my son woke me up at 3:00 am because smoke was coming out the wall near his pillow, he had turned on a 60 watt lamp to go to the bathroom when fire and sparks flew out of the recepticle. We lived in a one year old Mobil Home, the wire was copper but all wires were in the little holes.

Sport Pilot,
Probably too much information but -

14 gage solid copper wire is used on 15 amp duplex outlet circuits. If stranded or a smaller gage wire is used the outlet can fail. It is also important after using the back hole to pull on the wire to insure it is seated. All that being said if the box isn't big enough and you put a strain on the wire while installing the outlet it can also fail. I do exactly what Hobbsy does and that is to use the screws.

If we do get a fund started for Bill count me in.
John

That is really bad news about the fire at Bill's place, but I know one thing for sure,
Bill will miss his beloved cat friend much more that those chunks of machined aluminum.

That cat was Bills best friend for many, many years and Bill loved it dearly.

Well, someone has to do it....I have a Pay-Pal account, and can start collecting monies
for Bill right away.

PM me for my e-mail address. Money sent to a persons Pay-Pal account goes in through the
e-mail address. I will give information where checks or money orders can be sent as well, at
least for now....until maybe something better comes along later....let's get going right away.

Let's not let this thing fall through the cracks.

Flyboy Dave.

Boy, how I can relate to that. I have a little cat buddy too, who has been hanging around for 15 years now. I can imagine how heart broken he is.
