Does anyone know where parts can be had for an asp 80 4 stroke engine? I found part #'s on the web but no dealers. I have heard rumors that some magnum parts may interchange is this possible.
Thanks for any help

Hi,
Just Engines in the UK are used by a lot of your countrymen for ASP spares, I can't vouch for prices due to the exchange rate but their service is second to none.

The Magnum and ASP four stroke parts are directly interchangeable. Most all the 80 parts are available from Hobby People. Just don't tell them you have an ASP.

Bearings can be bought from http://www.mcintoshcentral.com/rc-bearings/catalog/index.php?cPath=21&osCsid=5c93ced73d42b15ca78fa5c4c427f08e

The ring can be bought from

Hey w8ye
Thanks for the info. it is most useful. I need help again though. I aquired another one of these ASP engines from a freind, it looks to be in good shape except the carb got broken off in a mishap. The person I got it from, does not know what happened to the carb which I presume has the broken part of the carb mount still attached. I tried the back plate off of a magnum 70 which does bolt to the crankcase but the carb mounts different, the intake manifold bolts on different as well. I had hoped maybe to switch manifolds but, not. My question to all is, does any one know where to get the back plate for this thing in the USA? I hope to use both of these engines on a twin.

What size is this additional ASP engine? Is it an "80" also?

The 65, 70, and 80 were alike but the 91 had a bigger bottom end and bigger mounting bolt pattern.

I just sold my ASP's and cannot remember but I know the 91 is all different

There's also an old and a new styles but the parts are mostly interchangeable between the old and new

Hi w8ye
Both engines are 80's . I put all the old parts back in the other one and ran it this weekend. Useing a MA 13-8 prop and magnum 15% fuel, it only turned 7000 rpm this seems low, but I am thinking rather than being worn out, it is more of an over propped problem. It sounds like you have experience with these engines, are they worth putting $ into? I prefer Saito's myself but I got these for free.

A 13-8 is a good bit of prop even for a 91.

Yet my ASP 65 old style seemed to really give a 13-6 a whirl. You might try a 13-7 if you can find one.

Still even with a 13-8, it should turn a little faster than what you said.

You might pull the side cover and check the timing? With the piston all the way up, the mark on the cam should be in line (up or down) with the lifters. If the mark is up, it will be behind the exhaust lifter and you cannot see it.

Greetings w8ye
Both these engines were gummed up to the point of being siezed. I tried the crock pot and anti freeze method to clean them after dis-assembling them which worked marvelous. So I did have the cam out of both engines, when I re-installed them it looked like the pic. you sent which was very helpful and I thank you for that. The cam in one of them originally was way off. They both appear to be on the money now and the one engine ran fair, as I said, 7000 rpm on a 13x8 MA prop and 15% fuel. I also dis-assembled the heads and set all valve clearences at .004 when I re- assembled them. I'm thinking a 13x8 is a bit over propped, but like you, I think it should have done a little better then that. I also forgot to mention that I am in Colorado Springs Co. and fly at approx 7000' altitude. I suspect low compression since the bearings felt exceptable. Do you by chance know how much compression it shoud have by the #'s? Any ideas where I can get parts for thse engines in the USA, I still need a back plate for the one?
Thanks for all the help.

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=ASP80102 (the ASP in this link stands for your brand of engine)

http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/280609.asp (the "asp" in the link is a type of computer language called "Active Server Page"

Don't be telling Hobby People you have an ASP. If they ask, Say "Magnum 80"

That picture came from a guy in France I think? It is of a OS four stroke engine.
