My Evo is doing well, I only broke one part and it was $0.50 ball link. I did that cartwheeling off a 10 foot jump, and by cart wheeling I mean bouncing 5 feet in the air on each corner of the truck until if came to rest at my feet. My pops has one and center punched a rock at full speed in second gear... the front end skipped over it but when her belly hit the rock it just stopped. Cracked the forward center skid plate. He later complained of loose steering and I found out that plate is what holds the servo saver/bellcrank together and it turns out the lower bellcrank was cracked almost all the way through. Now figuring a 12lb object was hurled at stationary rock in the 30 mph+ range, and upon impact came to a complete stop... I expected a lot worse. All of the parts were covered under warranty. I am having one hell of a time keeping these things in the right temp range though. It seems to go from not wanting to warm up at all and not shifting, lean HSN 1/12th and It runs real good, but the temp creeps up until about 270's then it will suddenly sky rocket! Even on a full tank of gas, it seems to rapidly heat up reaching 300+. Putting it back down 1/12th of a turn winds up bogging around and not shifting again. This has been done with both the body on and off and it still bakes. Sure seems too damn touchy to me, my experience with 2-strokes is from working in a motorcycle shop but the principle seems to be the same. Different fuel and glow instead of spark but tuning a carb should be "tuning a carb". Maybe I have to take a look at the o-ring under the carb like others have said. Im curious as to the needle settings others are finding work with this motor. I've got smoke trails through the band but notice once it starts to get hot it revs higher, which i think helps lead to it's temp shooting even higher. The only option is to richen it to back that 1/12th where it won't get above 240 and won't shift, and sounds a bit muffled, or sit and let it cool down after each tank of gas... which is no fun. The book says 250 is optimal temp and I can't get the thing to stay there. Overall though, it's been a pretty solid truck. I just wish I could find the sweet spot.
