Dear Heliko,

I noticed from the picture that you posted that you put you battery in behind the main rotor, how does that work for balance? I have my LiPo in the front and it is a little bit nose heavy and makes it harder to trim. Are you able to have a better trim with the heli? Also I am getting a eSky Head Lock gyro and was wondering if there is any way to enable the fifth channel on the radio because I know that the signal wire has to be pluged into that channel so is there anyway that you know of to control that channel from the stock transmitter, ie mod it or something with a VR on the Transmitter?

Thanks for the info
Tom

Where do you guys buy your Gyro's. From the local Hobby Shop or online. If online please list an address or two for the futaba's and csm's, or anything else you feel the need to mention. Thanx!!!

I went online. Some of my favorite sites are Tower Hobbies, HeliHobby, and HeliDirect. You can also try ebay. Sometimes a deal may pop up.

You can also use a cheaper gyro if you want. And I am pretty sure they will work as well. I am using a 240 in my FrankenAxe but will be able to try the TeleBee and several others I have spinning around my work area.

But like ElectricHead said, what you buy now can always move up to your next larger heli.

Carl

I've looked into some of the more reputable, cheaper gyro's, but the price difference isn't that much from what I can see. On the high end, you get a futaba 240 for like $119 and a cheaper one for maybe $75/$80. Still seems pretty high. Anyone out there have any real experience in cheap gyro's that do work well with the Axe that is somewhere in the $50 or lower range? I'd buy one at that price. I've heard too many stories where people have had boom strikes or crashes and destroyed their gyro's which is why I've been hesitant to get one, although I would love to have one on my Axe. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks and happy flying.

What is the difference between these two GY240's besides the price?

They looks the same, but one is $20 cheaper and I dont want to buy an older version.

Thanks.

Armhunter they're both the same gyro, but that's a great deal from Helikraft.
Another gyro making a splash is the Logitech 2100. If I knew about it when I bought my 240 I might have went with it instead.

I don't have a 2100, but from the pic it looks like it uses universal connectors so it should be fine. Those micro plugs are standardized anyway. Some brands have added methods to polarize the connectors. Futaba adds an extra little rib to there connectors that can be easily removed if needed and the JR plugs have a bevel. Either plug is compatible with a universal style connector which is the same type used on the Axe servos.

Armhunter it just dawned on me that you may still be using the stock Tx. If so I may have given you some bad info. If that's the case then I'm sorry. You see the 2100 is a great gyro, but it has remote gain which means it may require two dedicated channels to work properly in HH mode.

The GY240 can't match the 2100's performance as it's more on par with the 401, but the 240's one saving grace in using it with the Axe's stock Tx is it only requires one channel. I hadn't thought about that because I'm using a 7CHP.

Jim,
No real problem in going for a cheaper HH gyro, just make sure that the specs say that it is tempreture compensated. After I smashed my $119 GY240, I tried another brand price at around $30-$40. Worked for about 20 seconds and then started drifting. Shutdown to try to figure what's going on, can't find anything. start 'er up again, lift off, everything's good. Then after 20-30 seconds, she starts drifting again. If it was balance or setup, I wouldn't have gotten 20-30 seconds of good flight response, same logic for battery on sebsequent runs without changing the battery. That only leaves the electronics, which still point to cheap gyro. Went back to Futaba, didn't research pricing though (paid another $119 to Tower). Now everything's back to normal(?). Gyro works like a charm. Even holds pretty well in a light wind. Now I'm thinking about adding weight under the main rotor to dull response even further and compensate for my 'spaz thumbs'.

Good flying,
Splat
