I have all the controls hooked up, and plumbing the retracts now. Many range checks have been done and taxi tests. I am still moving the receivers around to get the best ground range check. Maybe first flight next week.

I flew it today! Whew! glad that is over. I was very woried about the radio inside the aluminum fuse. I put a reciever in each wing. and those had no fades. The main RX in the fuse had one and two fades during the two minute flight. With balencing weight it ended up just over 8 pounds and it was still tail heavy. Just flew it around a short pattern 3 times and left the gear down then slowly pulled the power back, milked the flaps down and wow they really worked well! It landed nice- I had to get it back down in one piece with all the work I have in it!

If I have time this week I will fly it again, test the retracts and get some pics.

That is very nice to hear. I am glad that after all of your work you have an airplane that you enjoy to fly. What are the two recievers in the wings for? Congrats on a good flight!

Iv'e got a JR 2.4 9303 in it and with that system unlike other brands that use the FAST system, I can hook up aditional recievers to get them out of the aluminum fuse. Others say that it is OK to have everthing inside the Flitemetal. Maybe, but this was my first time with the stuff and did not trust having it all inside.

I flew it at the Canyon Crosswinds field.

You have the other recievers incase one of the others craps out? That is pretty cool if it works like a safety net.

I fly with the Spektrum system, and it is nice to know there are two receivers in the plane to get get the input I'm giving. Redundancy is a gooooooood thing!

As far as I know only the 9303 has a port for more than one satalite receiver.

Was think of buying this as my first scale aircraft. How does this plane fly "out of the box". I would say I was a Beginner/Intermediate flyer. Would I handle her alright? Want to get into scale flying!!!

Thanks to my fellow scale buddy Brad for taking the pics. I have 3 flights now and have begun to wring it out a little. The radio as been great inside the aluminum fuse so far. It really moves and with the APC 10x6 it climes fantastic, better than my original .
It was still a little tail heavy, darn I hate adding wieght! must be done. Whoever designed this plane, my hat is off to you. 2 3/4 pounds heavyer than my original and now it's at 8 3/4 pounds! It really fly's like a P-51! that's what I like!!!!

I am going to have to eat some crow here. The cooling hole is not quite big enough. And I will have to add more cowl screws. But man, it flys great! Next I have to make those mods and hook up the pylons. And then start practicing for the Scale masters Qual. here in L.A.

I would recomend the Kyosho P-51 as a first scale plane. It is very light out of the box, and you almost can't crash it!

I also have to fix that antenna!

Dale that's awesome... my hat's off to you and your buddy Brad for taking such great pictures! In flight it looks just like the full size plane flying. You did an awesome job on this plane!!!

Kudos and don't worry about eating crow you live and learn.

Good job.

Five flights now. Finally got it balenced, it flies really good. With the nose weight, it is now NINE pounds yikes!!! But it does not seem to affect it. The loops are great. It is fast, so fast that one of the bombs blew apart, and I had to go out into the field seaching for it. And the flaps for landing really work! It lands as slow as a trainer! NINE pounds! Now it really flies like a P-51.

Next, pics of the bombs pickling off.

And making the drop tanks.

Then I can start my next ARFBash project:

The drop tanks work great! They came from an old ordinance package for EZ ARF's back in the 90's They are made of ABS plastic and they realy tumble nice.

Looking at those in flight shots, it is hard to believe that it started out as a Kyosho! You did a fantastic job on the kit-bash!

Looks great! I think that is one of my favorites also. I finished my cowl to the point of glassing and I also got a display prop. When I get the cowl completely finished I will send you some pics. Once again thanks for all of your help.

Dail, not trying to beat a dead horse (no pun intended ) but I was perusing some Oshkosh pics and came across the one below which reminded me of our earlier conversation regarding fabric on the elevators. This pic is of one of two newly restored P-51B Mustangs at Oshkosh this year and clearly shows the fabric. It also just happens to be a nice picture of a fantastic looking Mustang as well! Take care and good luck with your next project.
