Hello

I have recently acquired a 33% Extra 300L built from an aeroworks kit about 5 years ago. I was wondering what the recommended CG location is for this plane? The plane has been flown in the current configuration, however I would really prefer to verify the current CG against the recommended before my "first" flight.

Thanks

Thanks Mark that would be greatly appreciated.

If I might impose just a bit more, would you be able to give me the recommended control throws also?

Hi Mark,

I picked up an older CA Models Extra 300 all framed up. I think it's a little older 33% ? The wings are framed up (not foam) the ribs are cut foam (blue) with cap strips top and bottom. Can you shed some light on this version. I have no documentation with it. Came with ZDZ80 for power. The rudder servo mounting deck has the CA Models logo.

Thanks in advance,
John

As to my knowledge, there has not been a CA with that type of wing construction, maybe a new set was built for the plane? If you can get in touch with the builder of that particular airplane it may shed some light on it.

ymm8n,

The manual says 1/2-3/4" in front of the wing tube. But I would start off at 1" in front of the wing tube. If I remember correct, I am flying it at 3/4" in front. That is in front of the leading of the wing tube and am flying a little tail heavy. The landing characteristics change big time with cg on this airplane. You want a nose heavy plane for the first couple of flights. Trust me! Control throws are LOW: Elev-15 degrees up 20 down Ail-18 up and 17 down Rudder 30 degrees both ways. High rate are as much as you can get. This plane is a blast and flies on rails.

Enjoy,

Sean

Sean:

I appreciate the information. I will set it at 1" in front of the tube to start. I will have my fuel tank at the CG so there won't be any CG shift at takeoff due to fuel load and I certainly don't want the first flight to be tail heavy.

BTW, would you know the weight of yours?
Mine looks to be approaching 28 lbs with a 3W 106 for power.
I am going through the plane to see if I can skinny it down any…

Thanks,
Gary

Mine is weighing in at just a hair over 27 lbs. I have a DA 100 and am running 3 - 2700mah NIMH batteries. (They are 6 oz. a piece) My airplane is also heavy because am have an old set of ARF wings with a 48" tube. I built my fuse as light as possible though and removed a lot of wood. Sometimes I am surprised the thing hasn't blown up yet. You can really go crazy with a hole saw. All the formers, radio floors, engine box. I probably dropped almost two pounds in wood selection and drilling holes.

Have fun with her.

Oh yeah,

You will have plenty of power with a 3W 106 at even 29 lbs in Ohio.
