Ok now that I have discovered after some searching on Menthanol and found out that Methanol, Methyl Hydrate and Wood Alcohol are one and the same. My question is can I use synthetic motor oil or 2 stroke motor oil to mix my own homebrew. Because at $18 for a quart of Klotz synthetic oil there would be no advantage to mixing my own. :D

If you're talking about the likes of Mobil 1 and Syntec for auto engine, I doubt they will mix with methanol, though I haven't actually tried it.

Not every 2-stroke oil is compatible with methanol. Some can work in both gasoline and methanol; some only one or the other; still others will only stay in solution under certain condition and/or with presence of other oil or substances. You really have to check the instructions to know.

I would stick with that the proven ones, or at least what the manufacturers recommend for methanol.

That $9 a quart Klotz will only make 1.5 gallons of fuel. That's $6 bucks for the oil per gallon and add $2.00 for the methanol and its about $8 a gallon for 0% nitro. My LHS has 0% for $8.99 a gal. Got to find the oil cheaper than that.

That's exactly my point h82crash, there has be and someone already knows what commercially availbable lubes will work well with methanol. :D

I'd tried yesterday with Motul 800 Racing 2 Cycle Oil and it didn't mix with methanol.

I'd then tried with Castor Oil from a Lab. and mixed well.

Give Morgan Fuels a call. They won't sell their fuel to individuals but they will sell their oil. I paid $24.00 a gal. shipped (in the US)for their synthetic/castor blend. If you have a store in your area that sells their fuel, he could probably order it for the same price. I don't have their phone number off hand but they do have a web site.

Hello; I have been mixing my own fuel for two years for my Laser 100, 15% Klotz 85% methanol. It's the blend they reccomend. I've used it on some of my other engines mostly Saitos, it works fine. The Klotz is expensive here in Canada, I bought 4 gallons in an estate sale for 25$ so I should be fine for many years to come. I have tried my fuel in the odd two stroke here and there, when people have borrowed a tank full, and it has worked fine for them too. It reduces the cost of fuel to around $8 a gallon CND, and allows me to fly all I want without worrying about fuel costs.

Here in Toronto a quart of Klotz synthetic is $18. + 14% tax. Definitely not a bargain. Methanol I can get for about $4. per gallon.
