Status: offline 		I too am thoroughly pleased with this EF YAK! I haven't built many ARF's, but this one blows all the others away in terms of quality engineering, fit and finish! I've had a few of my flying buddys drop by since the YAK'S arrival in the BBT around two this afternoon and they just were floored over the size of this 50cc airplane. The hardware is excellent and the wing, stab and canopy covers are a huge bonus! Good job Chris, I wish you great success at EF!

Status: offline 		Guys, I can tell you.... when you see this plane you are going to be amazed at the size of it. I always thought the 85" was big when it come in, but this thing drawfs it. I'm afraid that it won't fit in my truck either so I'll have to come up with something to make it work with the tailgate down as well. I drive a short bed 1500 Dodge ram.

Status: offline 		Maudib I totally agree about the video thing.
I am just glad that Chris was up front with us and let us know that there were different designs other than the Yak coming.
If I had not been told that an Extra was coming I would have been all over this Yak like white on rice. The down side to that is that I would have been really disappointed with EF if I had of purchased a Yak and then two months or so later the Extra would have come along. Dont get me wrong I just am not a Yak fan as stupid as that may sound.
With Chris letting me know that a Extra is in the works just let me keep my money in hand til they get here. I still have a lot of great flying planes that I will be happy to fly until it gets here, that includes the 45" Extra.

On another note I have so much faith in Chris's designs and his planes that I would pay him in full right now to ensure that I get one of the first Extras. I think that I have become obsessed with the Extra and all I can imagine in my mind is a blown up version of the 45". I truely hope that is what it is do to the fact that this little plane absolutely rips.

To show the comparison of just how big the fuse is on this plane.

First pick is next to my Aviation Models 33% Yak. The 33% still is about 3 inches longer in the fuse but that is the only place it is larger.

Second pic, is the hatch for the 33% sitting inside the EF fuse, and this plane is light enough to be flown with a DA-50??

Status: offline 		BTW I got the first 33% AM to fit in my 6 foot truck bed so I feel certain that this one will!! {Edit-With the tail gate down of course the wheels go inbetween the tailgate and the truck bed. I strap from side to side through the landing gear and keep the tail forward. I typically only do 50 mph mak to the field so if you want interstate you should take a long look at going faster}

Status: offline 		Mustang Ace asked me about extensions so I'll reiterate here again:

2 x 36" for the elevators

2 x 12" for the aileorns OR 4 x 6" if you want to leave 2 6" in the receiver

Throttle in stock location is 12" from the receiver... so MOST throttle servos will need a 6" extension... If you move the trottle servo back (I am) then you may not need an extension.

Rudder needs none.


You need an SWB 4" offset arm for he pull-pull and 4 x 1.5" servo arms for the other surfaces.

Balllinks are supplied, but they use a 3mm bolt... if you do NOT want to drill out your servo arms (pre-drilled and tapped for 4/40) then you will want to have 6 x Dubro or Rocket City HR balllinks for the servo arm ends. You cannot just use a 4.40 screw into the supplied balllink because the hole is too large.

Either drill the arms or use HD balllinks there. You will need to use the supplied balllinks on the horms as the phenolics have been pre-drilled for the 3mm bolt.

You need axles and 4" tires (I used 3.5")

There are 4 titanium pushrods... 2 are slghtlu longer than the other and are for the elevators

You'll need some tygon fuel tubing and a fuel dot/filler for the supplied fuel tank. If you want to do a 2 line system you'll need a "T fitting"... if you want to do a 3 line, you'll need an extra clunk weight

Other than you radio/servos/battery system... you don't need any other hardware.

Status: offline 		guess its too late to request a video idea from chris, hes already out i imagine, i would love to see someone do a stall test ya know, cut it to idle and just give enough ele to hold the nose level until she falls out....that and at least 1 or 2 landings would be nice, along with the usual 3d and imac stuff

Status: offline 		Don't know WHY I am so slow today... moseying along I suppose...

I have the cowl mounted now...

1) I use clear, stiff plastic strips taped to the fuse that overlay the mounting tabs and marka dot on the strip where the center is

2) I drill each hole ONE at a time and put a screw in it... recheck cowl alignment and move on to the next... I usually do the top two first... then the bottom two... this allows for maximum adjustment as you go along.


The third pic shows the final prop clearance I have with the suggested 3/4" overlap of Former F1.

I got a vise grip and snapped off the large end, then used the dremel for the piece left over...
