blueangel -> Fuel for Saito 100 (2/10/2003 5:36:33 AM)

I bought a Saito FS-100. I wanted to know what brand of fuel would be best. This is my first four-stroke. Thanks.

Blueangle,

I think that just about any brand that has 15% nitro or better and 18% oil or better will be fine. Power Master, Morgan's, Wildcat, etc all have fuel such as this. There are some who swear by the Power Master Golden break in fuel... I've never gone to those lenghts myself...

You may want to start with a castor synethic blend when first breaking in the engine. After that a pure synthetic will work fine since it is a ringed engine.

EdMan-RCU -> Fuel for Saito 100 (2/11/2003 10:10:17 AM)

I have two Saito 100's. I use a 20/20 blend in both. (20% nitro and 20% oil) I have used both PowerMaster 20/20 and WildCat 20/20. Both seem to be equal. Saito even recommends using the Cool Power 30% heli fuel (contains 22 or 23% oil)
I am very pleased with the performance of the 20/20 fuels, so I will stick with that.

Good Luck,
EdMan

Couple of the guys in my club are using 30% nitro, engines run great! I always use at least 20% oil. I think I will try the 30% nitro this year. I fly Ritch's brew, great fuel.

blueangel -> Cool Power (2/12/2003 4:30:55 AM)

I read on Horizon Hobbby that 30% Cool Power Heli fuel works great. Has anyone used this? Does it work good?

JB Rekit -> Fuel for Saito 100 (3/2/2003 9:03:59 AM)

I use a 25/20 synthetic but am sure a 20/20 would be fine.

Mine is a Saito .91, but that is close enough:)

coomarlin -> Fuel for Saito 100 (3/2/2003 6:52:48 PM)

I'm debating the same question. I'll probably use either 15 or 20% nitro. Most likely 15%.

Why is it that the majority of fuels are 18% oil instead of 20%. Almost every fuel my LHS sells is 18% oil. Some are all synthetic and some are blends. I'm sure 18% would not hurt the Saito, but they do recommend 20%. I think I'll buy the 18% all synthetic and add a bit of Klotz castor to get it up to 20%.

KJSmitty -> Fuel for Saito 100 (3/7/2003 7:00:32 AM)

Hi all,
I've been running Powermaster Heli 30% from new in my Saito 100 with 0 problems.. Has an excellent idle and transitions great. The powermaster is all synthetic I believe and without looking at the can I know its a min of 22% oil. Totally happy with the Saito at this time.

RCLIVIN -> Fuel for Saito 100 (3/7/2003 7:03:52 AM)

I use 30% coolpower heli fuel in all of my 4-strokes, better idle & transition & much more power than the lower nitro content fuels.

Azulejo -> Fuel for Saito 100 (3/10/2003 12:03:23 AM)

Hi,
I just bought a new saito 180 and I am burning 15% nitro, 10% castor and 10% synthetic. Now I am thinking to go higher to a 20% nitro. Does it make a big diff. to go even higher to a 30% nitro? Can I use this mix also to my OS engines???

RCLIVIN -> Fuel for Saito 100 (3/10/2003 6:21:36 AM)

Alejandro B:
The 30% heli fuel will give you maximum performance with your 4 strokes, I have tried 20%, 15% & 10%, no comparison

PigMan Buggerus -> Fuel and RPM readings (3/10/2003 6:40:32 AM)

I have run in my Saito 100 on a bench, with about a gallon of 15%nitro/20%all synthetic. On the last tank of the 15% I waqs taching about 9400 on and APC 15x6, the next tank I ran through was Wildcat YS20/20. I tached at about 9800 with the 20%. I have some 30%, but haven't tried it yet.

These engines do seem to love the nitro though.

coomarlin -> Fuel for Saito 100 (3/10/2003 7:38:35 PM)

If I start with 15/18 fuel and want to get to 20% oil should I add about 2-3 ounces of oil to a gallon?

PigMan Buggerus -> Fuel for Saito 100 (3/10/2003 8:11:51 PM)

I would go ahead and put in 4 oz's of extra oil. This will bring you up to 27.04 ozs of oil in 132 ozs total fuel, which would bring you up to 20.48% oil. This also brings down the nitro content a little to 14.54%, but I think this is negligible. Good luck with your Saito 100 I think you are going to love it.

crashland73 -> Fuel for Saito 100 (3/21/2003 2:55:17 AM)

I have a Saito 91 and a Saito 150, and a Magnum 52. All of these I run 10% nitro 18-20% oil. Definatly plenty of power. I have used 20/20 in it before and didnt see much of a difference for the price difference. I have tried two different plugs so far too, the fox miricle plug and the os f. Both work good but the os has a better idle.

Homebrewer -> Fuel for Saito 100 (3/21/2003 6:43:45 AM)

20/20 fuel is best compromise between performance and cost. 30% nitro is costly and I don't think that added performance coupled with increased fuel consumption with the higher nitro is worth it.

PigMan Buggerus -> Fuel for Saito 100 (3/21/2003 7:12:01 AM)

I wonder if my LHS has the prices screwed up on their fuel. The WildCat YS 20/20 blend goes for about 18.95 a gallon. The WildCat 30/18 is only 17.95 a gallon. I guess it evens out after I add extra techniplate to bring the oil up to at least 20%. But realy no price difference between 20/20 and 30/18, so I am going with the 30/18 + techniplate. Can't wait to burn through the 20/20, wanna see what kind of performance gain I get with the 30/20.

JPMacG -> 10% Nitro (3/21/2003 10:45:31 PM)

I thinking of buying a Saito 72 this Spring but I really don't want to use the more expensive fuel. I've been using 10% nitro 20% oil in my 2-strokes for years with no problems.

How disapointing will the Saito's performance be with 10% nitro?

PigMan Buggerus -> Fuel for Saito 100 (3/22/2003 12:50:49 AM)

JPMacG,
I don't think you will be disapointed at all. While breaking in my saito 100, I used 15% nitro, 20% oil. The performance was still astounding. Like I said in an earlier post, I only got about a 400-500 RPM boost from the higher nitro. Put it this way, (someone correct me if I am wrong) a Saito 72 running the same fuel as an OS 70 Surpass, will produce more power. I think you will be very happy with the performance. Also if necessary, for whatever application you happen to be using the engine for, if you find you did need slightly more power, you have the ability to add the extra nitro for that. I don't believe the addition of extra nitro boosts the performance of an OS engine like it does a Saito. I don't really know what that means as far as engine efficiency goes. I do know that I love the power my 100 gives me with 20% nitro, and I can't wait to try the 30%, since it isn't any more expensive for me than the 20%. I have been led to believe that the engine will burn more fuel when you are using higher nitro fuels, since more fuel will be in the cylinder. Oh well sacrifices sometimes must be made.

JPMacG -> Fuel for Saito 100 (3/22/2003 3:02:15 AM)

Thanks Allan.

Here in southeastern Pa each additional 5% of nitro adds about $4 to a gallon of fuel.

PigMan Buggerus -> Fuel for Saito 100 (3/22/2003 6:18:56 AM)

yeah its crazy, like I said earlier, my LHS has the Ys 20/20 blend and the 30/18 blend at the same price.

:)
