Hey Guys,

I've been following this thread for awhile as I have a GF26-ISP engine that I'm currently installing into my Lanier Laser.

Trikeflyer - I'm assuming your Seagull Laser is roughly the same size as mine. My concern is spacing between the receiver and the ignition module. I've always been told/read to keep them at least 12" apart in a gas plane. The problem here is that this is very hard to do in this airplane. I managed to separate the components only about 9". How far apart are your components?

So basically, is anyone having any ignition related glitching that would be a concern?

Second question - has anyone been able to install a spinner? I can't find any adapters that will work for this engine. Other then using a Du-bro nylon spinner, which I don't want to do in a gas plane, what are others doing?

Thanks ...

=R

hey ratchet.....

yes be very careful about ignition/reciever related problems. as for the spinner...try precison aerobatics. they have some nice carbon/fibreglass spinners as well as alloy spinners.

hope this helps

cheers

Guys;
I picked up one of these engines for my 1/4 scale L-19. As it breaks in, does it become easier to hand prop?? I slapped my fingers numb trying to hand prop it. It will start fairly easy with my std. starter on 24 volts.

Hey Tauri - I've only started my engine a handfull of times so far and it's been fairly easy. The main problem was getting it to draw fuel initially. Once I covered the velocity stack with my thumb, it drew fuel quite easily. So far I've had two engine run to break the engine in. My 10 ounce fuel tank lasts almost 65 minutes running the engine at a leisurely 3500 RPM's. So basically, I've got 2 hours of run time so far.

Hi sixes,
Either one of these 26cc engines may work with your Extra but it will take a little engineering. You will probably need to pin the firewall and cut out quite a bit of the bottom of the cowl but it may work. With the new 26 it will be a unlimited monster and with the SP version it will be highly aerobatic/on the edge of full 3D. I am flying the new 26 on a Funtana X 100 using a 18x6 Mejzlik turning 8250 static -real fun plane. We have 6 of the SP versions left and 1 used prototype that I can sell for a reasonable price. Call us at 602-647-0165. Here are some pics of the Funtana as well. I use lipos and regs for RX and Ign. The Auw for this plane is 9.4lbs.

Here are a few PICS of my installation. I opted to use a servo for the choke. I've run in the engine on the ground, and so far, it seems to be OK. Fairly stable idle at 2200 RPM. Now that I've gotten a bit of run time (4 x 10 ounce fuel tanks at 3500 RPM's = 4 hours run time), I'll be changing props to a Zinger Pro 18 x6 and flying my Laser.

Gday,
Just received my CRRC 26 today which I was (mmm) going to use on a Modeltech
cessna I have had lying around for a while (ARC version). Upon reading the photocopied manual that came with it I am not too sure......

Did anyone else receive their's with the "obligated defect".......lol

Point 2: "We are obligated to having products which make the defect to offer the service".... what the f@#$!!!

Hey flapper,
I too just picked up a CRRC 26, and yes the manual is part jibberish! I built a test stand and fired it up for the first time today... So far I am pleased. Just need to run it in for a couple of hours. I fly at 6600 ft. so I'm anxious to see if it will tune in at this altitude.

Hi,
Jibberish is a slight understatement. You would think that the manufacturer would have spent a little bit of money and had a translation done with a bit of accuracy!!

Anyway, please let me know how you go with the engine. What type of prop, oil mix etc.

Hopefully the 'obligated defect' was not included in our engines.

Regards
Flapper

So far I've run the engine for a total time of about 60 minutes and the "obligated defect" hasn't occured .

I mixed my break in fuel at 20:1 (slightly oily) with synthetic 2cycle oil. The less than clear instruction manual did say to run 98 octane gas so I added a touch of octane boost to my 85 octane unleaded. I'm using a 16x8 top flight prop for the break in and the engine seems to be smoothing out a bit. I don't have a tach so I'm not sure what the RPM range is, but I've been running at about 1/4 throttle for most of the break in so far.

I'm going to put this engine in a 76" wing span P-51B. Best of luck with your Cessna project flapper...

Will one of these be good enough for the H9 Sundowner?

wildswan,

I don't have any experience with the Sundowner, but H9 recommended size for a gas engine is 26cc-35cc. I like the looks of that plane and if I had one in the hangar, I'd throw the CRRC Pro GF26I and see what happened!

Valley View RC has 3" aluminum spinners for this engine and the SPE 26cc and 40cc. They also sell this engine.

Jody at Valley View RC is right on with the break in of this engine. He says 32-1 gas oil mixture, Ign. off, put thumb over
