I have a Sony mini dvd Handycam (DCR-DVD105). The windows media player won't open the file when try to play mini dvd on the computer. Its that it has the wrong file extension. How can I convert it to the proper extension, so I can view it on the media player and post on this site?

Thanks, Steve

Hi!
Sony dvd camcorder use a DVD format,so you must use a video editing tool (i use Ulead video studio) and you have more options to transcode your video(wmv,avi,dvd,svcd..)
cheers

What is the file extension. If it is AVI then it is possible that Windows Media player has a codec to play the video. I have a ton of DV video from a sony and it all plays. Try going to the Windows media player website and updating to the latest version. Also search on codec's for the file extension that you are having issues with.

Hey guys, I also have a Sony Handycam and have the same problem.. The file extension is VRO, and Windows Movie Maker doesnt recognize it. Is there any way to convert the damn thing? Ive been searching online and on the forums for a bit, because I have a video of my nitro truck that I want to edit and post on youtube but I dont know how... Are there any free converters that wont have banners on the video? Thanks.

Old thread, new question...

I just got a new Sony CX7 a week ago, and it's my first video recorder in years.
The software package that comes with the camera will convert and play the recorded files just fine.

The issue I'm having is playing back the video on either the Sony software, or Windows Media Player.

Video recorded on an HDR-CX7 will playback on Windows Media Player, but none of the controls of the player are useable. (Video Settings - Brightness, Contrast etc.)
This happens whether the file is converted from m2ts to mpeg, or taken as an mpeg with the camera.
Any thoughts?

The viewer and software supplied with the camera work good, but again, there is no way to adjust any of the video settings during playback.

Thanks for any ideas
Bob
