James likes all white and his may be solid white as well. So if you can add some color to at least one wing panel, I would. I like the white canopy though. You might have started a trend of painting the canopy.

Not only is this legal, it will be especially effective in removing the tail feathers or in chopping off half the wing of any competitors if they come too close! Then you can duck back into the clouds and become invisible.

The 13x10 is certainly legal. My only question would be - what have you got turning that monster????

Just posting to say that we have arrived in Columbus, Indiana. Unfortunately it looks like we got here just in time for "Building Season". Have only 2 NIB Skyraiders, none flying. Have lots of small-frame bushing engines.

Am guessing that the weather has gotten drier in South-Central Texas and hoping that tomorrow's race will be even more fun for you guys than 10/20.

Hey, Florida guys, haven't heard from you in a while.

Will be joining the local club this month. Trying to learn what is happening in Indian-Kentucky-Ohio. If any of you know, fill me in.

Ooops, no photo. Sorry.

I'm doing a Kurt Busch Miller Lite color scheme Club 40 plane for a NASCAR personality.

I haven't decided what to do with the stab and rudder yet. I've thought about using the wingtip scheme on them, and I have thought about doing the stab in solid blue. The blue/white checkerboard I have is not an exact match on the blue, but would look fine if used appropriately.

Don,
Either a blue with black & red outline #2 or get a Lite sticker to put on there with #2 on the wingtips. You need the slogan "No GHT" somwhere too.

If you really want to imitate the car you need to smash in the nose a little bit

Here is the latest progress. I recovered the fin and rudder in blue, and I added the red stripe on the sides of the fuselage.

I'm trying to decide if I'm done, or if I'm going to cover the stab/elevator in red/white checkerboard on the bottom and solid blue on top.

I was doing this plane for Humpy Wheeler. I got the covering finished on it on Friday night. Humpy came out to fly at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Saturday. He was very pleased with the plane. He also came out to fly on Sunday. I sent the plane home with him. He's going to get decals made for it.

Humpy has a new show on SpeedTV.com. It will debut on 2-12-2008. I did this plane in Kurt Busch's color scheme. Kurt is one of the first guests on The Humpy Show. Since you mentioned smashing in the nose, this show should be interesting.

quote:

Never one to shy from the cameras, H.A. “Humpy” Wheeler will put his skills as NASCAR’s ultimate promoter, storyteller and diplomat on display for SPEED viewers beginning with a one-hour special Feb. 12 at 9 p.m. ET, when The Humpy Show debuts with guests Buddy Baker and Kurt Busch discussing great NASCAR rivalries.

There were exciting developments for R/C Pylon Racing in Charlotte for 2008. I will be starting a new thread. Monthly 2 pole Club 40 racing at Lowe's Motor Speedway (or Huntersville if there is an activity at LMS).

Here's mine. It's a SR mkII. I ordered the solid yellow version, then added the black markings. If I ever have another one of these planes, I'll either strip off all the covering and recover, or buy the ARC version. Whatever they use for covering is absolute CRAP!

John,

The ToughLon is not the best covering. But using ToughLon over ToughLon works much better than trying to put MonoKote or Ultracote on it. Because the shrinking temperature of ToughLon is only 250, you have to use a low temp covering for trim. EconoKote works fine, but color choices are limited. AirBorne Models stocks a large range of colors of ToughLon. Even more than are on their web site. The World Models catalog lists all of the available colors.

I got the ARC done so that people don't have to strip the ToughLon off. ToughLon will sometimes leave the adhesive and color if it is stuck on real well. You have to use acetone to remove the residue. With the ARC, this is a non-issue of course.

Your color scheme looks cool. You seem to like that Yellow Jacket theme.

Here are a few photos of my Sky Raider MkII, the "Menacing Molar". Has a dental trim scheme. I've since added a large syringe on the wing with a drop of novocaine dripping from the needle tip. The plane started as all red, and added Monokote trim over the Toughlon, just on very low temps on the iron.

I've seen the MkII ARC kit, which would be my future preference, since I'd rather use Monokote and really customize the plane with originality.

Dave G.

Thanks Don for making us aware of the ARC version!!

Thanks Don. What price are you selling the ARC Skyraider for?

Yeah, I found that the heat I needed for the monokote really played havoc with the ToughLon. It looks pretty good from a distance but up close... well, I'm not very proud of this one. And now, it has an Arizona Iced Tea alum can wrapped around the LE of the right wing. I had to do a quick field repair after hitting and knocking down pylon 2 on Saturday. First time I've ever hit a pylon.

Truth be told, I don't really care for the way this color scheme looks. But there are a couple of reasons I chose it. One, it's really easy for me to see. The yellow with a dark contrasting color is great for my eyes. I've had several planes using yellow and some other dark color. But what I really do like about it is that I've only seen one plane with this schemethe full sized Yellow Jacketnever any models. I really like to have things that are distinctive.
