Very simple......

go to the menu page.

I believe its #13 for Dual rates

set rate 1 with low Dual rates and low Expo's

Set rate 2 with medium rates and expos

set rate 3 with high rates and expos

You need to fine tune each set of rates to your flying style.

In general the low rate is about 10-20 degrees of throw with about 20-40% exp

High rates are 100% throw with 60-90% expo.

Ok......now we are asking 2 different questions.

1. The above suggestion gives you 3 settings of throw. By pressing enter on the main screen and then d list on the next screen and then 13 DR&EXP then enteron then next you can pick the throws for your 3 position switches. Most people use the switches in these postions. Elevator in postion 2 is lowest throw (i.e. switch down or towards you) and postition 1 being middle and position 0 being 3D throw. **very important to fly these switches how everyone else does incase someone else flies your plane or at least warn them ahead of time***

2. Flight mode is different. This is the ability to assign switches for specific functions
By pressing enter on the main screen and then d list on the next screen and then 17 Func S then enter it takes you to the page where you can turn on and off switches. I always suggest turning any switch/dial off that you are not using. That way if you happen to program a mix incorrectly to a switch that is not in use and happen to bump that switch/dial inflight the plane won't do anything crazy.

Next press page Here is your flight mode page. What can do here is putt all your throw settings on one switch. i.e. if you put them on elevator.....every time you move the elevator switch all your control surfaces will move to the same rate as elevator

By doing this the radio is pre-programmed to think that switch position 2 is the high rate (even though I discussed earlier that most people fly at postion 2 as low rate)....thus the radio will beep at you and display a warning when you first turn it on unless you are in postion 0, what it thinks is the low rate setting. Simply cycle the switch from position 2 to 0 and back to clear the warning. **note all the other control surface switches are inhibited now....all control is done through what you selected as master***

Its always good habit prior to any flight to verify switch postions. Take that extra 2 sec to verify.

Hope this helps

Part 1 is yes.....they all work together, but at the settings you put in the DR/Expo mode.......i.e if you put 90% Dual rate and 40% expo on rate 0 of elevator and put 70% DR and 50% expo on rate 0 of aileron.......with flight mode on.......it reads those values and uses them. The "one seletcted" switch only activates the rate at which you will be in for all 3.....values are independant of the switch.

Part 2

Per the instruction manual

normal- the response or rate of travel is less at neutral pint and increases as the stick reaches full movment (with postive expo....negative expo is opposite)

VTR- transmitter operates in Dual rate mode until the it reaches the selected value then moves to the next higher dual rate. (this way if you wanted 3D throw only at full stick deflection but not at small movements you can make that happen without flipping switches)

Lin/Exp and vice versa are used to smooth out the dual rate and expo in each mode. similar to a throttle curve

Go to Horizon Hobby website. They have a "how to " section. In that section there is an excellent written procedure for setting up the JR 10x. I printed it and used it to program mine for a 35% extra QB and it really makes it simple.
